Republicans Will Prepare for a Rousing

Tho young men of this city will hold
a meeting at tho police court room
this evening, for the purpose of organ
izing a "First Voters' Republican
Club." The young men of Salem are
taking a great Interest In this matter,
and Intend1 to onllst" almost every
eighteen to twenty-oner within the vi
cinity of 8alem.
The young men of Salem are almost
unanimously for the Republican
standard bearers. They recognize In
tho principles advocated by Theodore
Roosevelt progress, prosperity and fu
ture greatness for the American na
tion. The boys who will cast their
first voto3 on November 8th will ally
themselves with the former, and as
sist In the great American policlos In
augurated by our great presidents,
Lincoln, Orant anil McKInley.
On Saturday evening tho executive
committees of tho four Republican
clubs, the Young Men's, the Roo3evelt
club, the First Votors' club and the election day,
University Republican club, will meet
at tho police court room for the pur
pose of completing arrangements for
the great rally, which will be held in
thla city November 1st.
Many prominent Republicans from
various sections of tho stato will at
tend, and the evening will bo made a
gala one for tho Republicans of Ma
rlon county. Senator John II. Mitch
ell will deliver the prlnclplo address
of tho evening. Hon. Percy R. Kel
ly, the brilliant young attorney and
orator of Linn county, is slated for a
roiulng talk. Hon. Wm. Kuykendall,
of Eugene, Hon. W. I. Vawtor, of
Medford, Hon. Dan J. Malarkey, of
Portland, and others will mako ad
dresses. The Republicans of Marlon county
do not Intend to .sleep during the latl
week of tho campaign. They want a
rousing majority, and If hard work and
enthusiasm will prcduco It, thero wl'.l
be no limit to the Roosevolt vote on

The Columbia and Willamette Uni
versity football elevens will meet on
the 'vaVslty field tomorrow afternoon
to competo for supremacy, and an In
teresting, game Is promised. Tho Port
landers, although light, aro speedy,
and succeeded in defeating Pacific
University last year by a scoro of 11
to 0. Coach Bishop has been striving
to develop somo fast team work In his
bunch of fellows this week, and to
morrow's game will show how well he
has succeeded. Tho weather prom
ises to be fair, A"d the field is all that
could bo deslred,so that a snappy
game Is expected. The visiting team
will arrive tomorrow morning, and
will bo given a recoptlon In the even
ing by tho young ladies of tho school
at tho Ladles' Hall.
