The log was brought down to the mill froms Clatskanlo Local loggers had found tho giant of tho forest on tho property of Mr. Bonson nnd nows of tho find reached tho St Louis fair commissioners of Oregon. Mr. Benson readily ngrood to got out tho log freo of chargo, but tho commissioners woro at a loss for moans to havo It squared. Mr. Hume was asked to undertake tho work and promptly ngreed, so tho log was brought down to ABtorlo. For a few days It was In the northeast corner of the big boom, whoro It attracted much attzltion. On Thursday it was hauled up Into the mill and thoro carefully cut down to a timber 48 Inches square Originally tho log measured 44 feet G leches In length. At the largor end tho diameter was 93 Inches, whllo at tho smaliod ond it measured C7 inches In diamotor. It scaled 10,526 foot. The Umber turned out of tho mill Is 44 foet C inches In longth and 48 Inches square It scales 8544 feet. Its weight Is Just 3 1-3 times the number of feet it scales, or 28.480 pounds There was no charge for tho log no ohargs for tho sorvlce rendered by Mr. Humo, nnd it will be laid down at St Louis at little cost to the state.
