Edes, formerly well- known In this city, and prominent in affairs here, died In Oakland, Cal., at 1 o'clock this aftornoon, and the re mains will bo shipped from that city to Salem tonight, and, If no delays oc cur, will arrive hero Monday at 6:40 a. ro. Tho remains will bo taken to tho homo of Mrs. Herman W. Darr, and at 10:30 a. m., on Monday, the funeral will bo held from the Catholic church, and Intormont will bo had In the Catholic cemetery, south of this city. Ed. N. Edos was a native son of Salem, and here the groatest part of his llfo was' spent. He rocolved a good business education, and whon he grow to manhood Borved for a tlmo iIb an offlcor on tho Salem police force. Later ho ongaged In tho cigar busi ness, and In 1892 ho was elected city recorder of Salem and was twlco re elected, sorvlng In that capacity with ability for six years. Leaving Seattle ho wont to Oakland, California, whoro ho had n good posi tion with a largo warohouso company, until sickness overtook him that soon carried him awny. Deceased was prominent In social and fratornal circles In this city for many years. At one tlmo ho was a raombor of Ollvo lodgo, No. 18, 1, O. O. F., nnd In 1895 roprosonted that lodge In tho grand lodgo of Oregon, nt tho session hold In Uosoburg. Ho also Joined Willamette Encampment No. 2, and was a chartor momber of Salem lodgo No. 33C, n. P. O. Elks, and for years Its secretary. He was also a mombor of Protection lodgo, No. 2, A. O. U. W nnd to tho day of his death hold n benefit certificate for $2000 In that order. He leaven a wife and one son, about 12 years old, and one slstor, Mrs. H. W. Moyors, who Is now In San Fran cisco on n visit Ed.
