Zlnns, of Houghton, Michigan, who is here personally to Inaugurate work on tho property of tho Merchants Placer Mining Com pany, situated In tho Hurnt River dis trict, about 18 miles west of Baker City, was busy yesterday, with his sir penntonuent, transferring two car loads of machinery from the O. R. & N. gnngo cars to the Sumpter Valley narrow gauge. The machinery will be hauled to Lockhart, and from thence by team to the mines. The machinery Is from tho Ameri can Splrnl Works, of Chicago, nnd In cludes a Knowles pump, weighing 7500 pounds, with a capacity of throw Ing 1200 gallos of water per minute The bollor weighs 15,000 pounds, nnd the pipe fitting, etc., completed a total weight of 39,290 pounds.
