They secured an advance for their canning borrloe. getting 3& cents a pound for all first grados and 3 cents for the second grades. As the season Is very favorable most of the crop will yield the former price, the Union hnvlng secured a very favorable limit of 10 or below to the- pound for first grades. The Union has statistics showing the crop of strawberries will be over 30u.(HM) pounds, and probably one fourth of them, or the strictly fancy, will be shipped as long as prices Jus tify. This will leave the largest pack for the cannery ever put up her. A contract for cherrlea and other small fruits will bo closed noxt Saturday. Tho cherry crop promises to be large and prices favorable. The Union unanimously ratified tho contracts made by the directors. Lawrence Harris of Eugene, and Hon. John II. McNary of Salem. Ex-Gov. Fletcher presided and made some good speeches In Introducing the orators or the even ing. The Jefferson brass band was in evldonce and played sonic stirring tune. Tho county campaign committee will meet this week and make detailed plans for speaking In most of the prln cliwl towns tin the county. E. A. Reames will speak at the Armory .this evonlng and all efforts will bo made by the local Democrats to give him a good crowd and a re spectful hearing. He Is entitled to this as he has a big task on his hands, running against a big majority, and making a fight for the opposition against almost hopeless odds. Some one must do this and while there arc some who claim or say that he will be etectml the general opinion Is that he will be snowed under by from 9000 to WOO majority. Tho complaint sets out that the plaintiff and defendant wore i ntnn a r rltxl at Salisbury. Vermont, on March . 1800; that at the February term of the Htate circuit court for Marlon county. In the year 1807, tho defendant wns convicted of a felony, and sen tenced to bo confinement In the ponl tentlary for a torm of twenty years, and Is now an Inmate of that Institu tion. Tho plaintiff asks for a decree of tho Bought a Salem Home. On Saturday there was sold to Dr Leo Stolnor lots G and 7. block 23, on Liberty street, In this city. These properties were owned by Hon. T U. Davidson and tho Scottish Ian Com pany. Tho Intter wna formerly owned by Dr. Golden. The consideration was $8000. Dr. Stelner Is at present prac ticing medicine at Lnkevlew, but ho expects eventually to come bade to Salem and make his homo here.
