Mat toon, formorly of this olty, In his home at that placo Monday night. Mattoon was burned allvo whllo alono In his Iiouho, but a short distance from whero his family was stopping. As near iib could ba learned the facts aro as follews: Mattoon, who lived nt tho station at Summit, and owned sov eral hundred acres of land adjoining tho station, was for tho first tlmo In years conducting tho farm himself tho present season, and had been thera with his family stopping at tho farm home, but a short dlstauco from tho station, during tho busy season. Dur ing tho past few days ho had heon threshing. Tho dust from tho ma chine had irritated the deceased's as thma, to whioh ho had been sttbjoct for years, and ho was unablo to sleep on account of the nolso about tho farm. Monday evening Mr. Mattoon told his wife he would spond tho night alone In the quiet of their home at the station, 'trusting that ho might securo a good rout, after the hard work of tho day. Nothing mora Is known definitely, oxcept that about -1 o'olock yostorday morning tho Mat toon homo nt the station was discov ered In flames. Tho house was a mass of flames, and It wa"a Impossible to ef fect an ontranco. Afterward tho charred remains of Mr. Mattoon wore found In the ruins of the burned dwel ling. It Is presumed that Mr. Mattoon was treating himself for asthma, the mudlelno requiring the application of heat It is possible that Mattoon was In tho act of lighting a lamp, or heat ing the medlolne, when ho was over come by an attack of the d!smse and dropped the light, setting Are to the building.
