a satisfactory price for their holdings,

W. H. Downing, a momhor of the
sales committee, was In tho city to
day, nnd says, to nil apponrancoB, thnt
the dealers have formed n combine
since nil the bids that wcro recolved
were practically the samo. Mr, Down
ing says the association controls the
Milk of the grain grown in tho east
ern section of the county, nnd If the
IkmjI cannot be disposed of nt reason
able figures, the growers will nrrange
for the shipping nnd snlo of their
grain under their own management.
Mr. Downing further reports thai the
association has received an offer of an
advance of 18 cents n bushel to on
able the growers to hold their crops.
The advanced money Is to bo a lien on
the grain, or personal security can be
given by the farmers. This offer re
ceives no consideration, for the grow
eis are detei mined to enter tho mar
ket. If necessary, and sell their grain at
the best possible advantage. They
have mndo a success of their pools for
two years, and aro resolved that this
year shall not be no exception. They
are not particularly displeased with
the offer that has been recolved for
their wheat, which Is four cents above
the Salem market qtiotntlon, but think
the limitation for the (Hits Is too low to
be coneideied, since as high as 2fi
cents has been offered In tho local
market for the same .grain nlroady
this season.
Mr. Downing line just finished
threshing. Ills oats did not ylold as
well hh he expected, producing only
from aft to 30 bushels per acre, while
his wheat gave surprising results, the
averngtt yield being from 26 to 31
bushels per acre.
