There was n good yield this year, and with favornblo weathor for ripening, a full crop wns produced. Tho borrlos woro gonernlly of an ox- (.'ollunt quality, but tho local shipping Dunkirk, and situated on Side of the west fork of Hood lllvor, fourteen miles southwost of town. The records of the othor pickers are: Miss Hcrtha I'ratt, 270 boxos; Mr. Parsons. 204 boxes; Miss Stella Par sons, Jt52 boxes; Holly Spauldlng, 252 boxes; Walter Parsons, 252 boxes. Altogether, 81 crates of strawborries were gathered from the patch of four acres. Monday. Of this number Mis ses Maud and Alpha Parsons packed 70 crates. This probably broko the record for fast work. Why. Inspection Was Needed. Much of this work of Inspection was inuda necessary hy tho poor work of tho plolcnr. It was at times Impos sible for muny of the growers to se euro enough pickers, nnd without clean plotting ench day, tho patches are bound to deteriorate. Careful work on the part of the plckors wns thus necessary, but good pickers were bard to get, and many of tho farmers lost lieuvlly on this account. Home of Hutts farnj of thirty acres Is the larg- est berry much in tho valley, and this year produced 3,500 crates of straw berries. The I). H. Miller tract of ten acres turned off over 2,000 crates. The smaller patches bring In the largest returns per acre, and produco tho best berries. This Is because the work of cultivation Is usually moro thorough, and the supervision of pick ing and packing Is more easily do no. The principal markets for Hood lllvor strawborrlos are tho Montana towns, tho Dnkotas, Minnesota and Manitoba, while many berries nro sold In Oinnlin. Denver, Snlt Lake and Seattle. Some few are sold In Port land, nnd this year shipments woro mado to Dawson City.
