Salem Justice Court.
Two years ago, after a hard fight.
J. O'Donald was elected justlco of tho
Salem district, aud John Lewis con
fttablw. These olllclals wero plodgod
to run no unnecessary fee bills on the
county, and thoy have kept theJr
plodgtw. In two years tho fees drawn
by tho justice have beon $736, and tho
ooiiBtablu has drawn $548, or about
one-half what any predecessor has
over run the offlce. The ngurtts nro

gentlemen have kept their pledges to
reduce tho buslnew of tho Justlco
court to a minimum, aud yet not deny
Justlco to any one who has a worthy
causo of action. Justlco O'Donald has
a reputation for treating all cases with

terests. Tho people of this district can

Marlon County Registration.
County Clork Hall has completed the
recording of all registrations for Ma
rlon county, and tho discrepancy In the
registering of electors In not as great
as was oxpectcd. Tho total number to
register was 6904. Tho number regis
tering in 1900 was C409, showing a
falling off In tho registration this year
of only 44G, Instead of 1000, as had
been estimated.

Excursion on Sunday
Arrangements have boon completed
for Uio big excursion of tho Federated
Trades Council that will be run from
Portland to. Salem on Sunday, Juno
1st. Tho excursion will consist of two
sections, and will probably reach Sa
lem about 11 o'clock.
Both trains will stop at tho fair
grounds for tho accommodation of
thoso who do not care to go Into Sa
lem. The train will tnen run to tho
Salem depot. Special street car ser
vlco will bo provided to handle tho
great crowd between tho city and tho
grounds. At 1:30 p. m. tho sports will
tako place on tho raco track In front
of tho grandstand. A placo for thoso
who wish to dance has been arranged
In tho pavilion. Aftor tho racing, otc,
a baseball contest will tako placo on
tho fair grounds diamond between a
select team from tho unions of Port
land and thoso of Salem. Arrange
ments havo also been mado for Uio
opening of the insano asylum and tho
penitentiary between tho hours of 2
and 4 p. m.. Thoso Institutions can
