Clackatnaa county In tho stato conven
tion but of his own support under all
circumstances.
On account of thoso assurances Got
onior Geer kopt his hands off tho poli
tical machlnory of that county, rely
ing all tho tlmo on Brownoll's prom
ises, although his friends horo repeat
edly warned him that It was dono only
to throw him down. But tho governor
replied that Brownell had novor de-

said by othors, andlhat as there could
be no mistake about the sontlmont of
tho county, ho would roly on Brown
ell. Tho result Is known. Brownell
dominated tho county convention, Geer
was thrown overboard, was defeated

which they nro offered instead of the
farmer govornor, a banker of Pendle
ton, unknown to anybody save as a
professional "organizer" and feo grab

Clackamas county could bo rolled up
on to loynly support him, that thoro
would bo no opposition to him what

be depended upon under all circum
