It seems that on Saturday afternoon, Juno 16, about '! o'clock, Frank Lombard and John Kelly wore sitting on tho porch stops in frnotof Lombard's store, and each witness testified to their at tention being attracted to them by hear ing loud and nugry words spoken, tho first heard Using to hear Lombard say, "Oh shut up, I'vo hoard enough of that', and also said they must not talk so loud. Lombard dared him to shoot anil lowered his head probably preparatory to advancing to him, when Kelly 11 red and the bullet enteied I-oinlnud'a head between the eyes, ranging downward, locating at tho base of the skull, neur the roof of tho mouth. Lombard then sprang toward Kelly un.l struck lilm down and with the as sistance of his brother put handcuffs on him as allowable in his position as murshul of the city. A premature explosion occurred at 10 o'clock this morning on tho now Washington and Oregon railroad, killing three men and injuring six others. The eceno of the accident.was in rock cut No. three, half a mite south of Kalama. Tho clauee of tho explosion will per haps never bo known as the men who wero working at tho drill bole wero instantly killed. About twenty-five mon were working in the cut and from the survivors it is learned that Thomas Graham and Hugh Jamison of Portland, wero loading a twelve foot drill hole with giant bowder, and had put in about ono hundred sticks. It is supposed they lind been tamping tho powdor with an iron bar when tho explosion occurred. Jamison's head was blown off.
