But wo are going to ask you a fow hard questions and wo shall enjoy see ing you answer them or dodge thorn to the best of your ability. Wo shall do this in the greatest spirit of courtesy and with only tho best of good will toward you personally, and solely for tho pur pose of being onlightenod ourselves If tha), Is possible, as wo do not pretend to havo solved all thceo probtome, or that you havo not honestly acted to tho best of your ability and intelligence on all thoso matters. Mr. Tongue, you will no doubt tackle tho trust question, Wo would liko to ask you one point blank question, and get a square answer. It you, Mr. Tongue, were on a congressional investigation cqmtnlttee, and the great coal miner's strike in Pennsylvania was before your committee, and the fact waa made ap parent that as a result of that strike the great coal syndicates had 'reduced the price of powder (o tho miners from 12.75 a keg U $1.50 a keg, would you put I tno question to the syndicates: WHO HAS BEEN GETTING THE $1.25 A KEG DIFFERENCE? Would you flat tho question, has not this $1.25 a keg been a clear robbery of the half-starved minor? Hbh it not been kept out of the living of hia wretched family? Have not tho coal trnst and tho powder trust, made possible by Re publican legislation, enabled the powder trust and tho coal trust to thus rob la bor fn this instance, and probably in thousands of other ways? In other words would you ask ques tions of tho coal barons. and tho trusts that would embarasa them, and com pell them to surrender eomo of their mill ions thoy have taken from labor and tho coneamer? To come nearer home, the sugar trust is taking $1,50 a sack out of tho people. Tho people aro getting four to flvo pounds 4ess sugar for a dollar tban thoy wore lour years ago under tho Wilson, tariff. Who gets this robbery on ono of tbo common necessities of llfo? Do tho la boring men who work in tho sugar re fineries got it? Thoy may get a little of it, but dooa not -tho sugar tniBt get tho bulk of the advance and do you not favor tariff protection of tho sugar trust? Of course, you can twist andv;equlrm around and make your partisans who will get out and stout for you bpliove anything you tell them.
