On the 17th Inst., delegates from the rationi Sunday zobools assembled atjthe Presbyterian ehuroh at Turner, and at 10 o'alock . ra. the Red Hills District convention was in session. The president, Sir. Cha. Townsend, m!I1 the convention fo order and all joined" in singing 'Praise God From Whom Blessings Flow." This was followed by the invocation by Iter. McCoinb, of Turner. The address of welcome was given alto by Sir. McComb, and was responded to b Sirs. Charles Townsend, on "The Needs of the Sunday School," on which a livelv dlecDrfon followed. Devotional exercises inaugurated the afternoon session. Prof Cummings led the discussion on how to conduct teachers meetings and was followed by Dr. Holt, Sir. Damon and others, emphasizing the importance of teachers meeting together to plan for their work and of learning what to teacb and what not to teach. Master Walter Brookhart, a member of Prof. Cumming's class, read ;a paper on the manner of condncting Sunday school in the Reform school. This Is the great Wisconsin berry, and to my mind is the most perfect shortcake berry ever grown. It la bright red, medium .site, good flavor, not very sonr nd not very sweet. The flesh is like batter, so smooth and even in fiber, that it makes the finest pulp for shortcake, when mashed, of any brry that grows. M'KIKLEY. Thia great Ohio berry produced two crops this year for me. I mowed the patch and put on water and in two weeks it had grown a new foliage and was soon in bloom. It is a big yielder bat not high quality. IDEAL and RUBY. Theee varieties aro acclimated and are proven to be the greatest canning berries that have been brought to Oregon the Ideal ex celling the famous Hood River berry on the teat of commercial canning made at Salem recently in color, flrm-oss and flavor by flf percent. Tho Ruby ia a larger berry than the Ideal but dark rod. acid and solid, a perfect heart shaped berry. When canned Its col or is a dark ruby or wine-red. These two varieties aro going to be plrntcd ex clusively for cannery use. If put up In small tins for the high-class trade like tho Pullman car- buffets, and ocean steamers that want something very fine, there is no berry that can equal them and thoy will lay tho foundation for a great industry at Salem in the opinion of cannerymen and jobbora who havo given attention to these matters. Sly Spanish berry, tho OERVERA, has proven to bo tho most luscious strawberry for fresh uso that haa over been brought to my attention and many porsonB who sampled it fresh from my grounds all declarod thoy had never tried anythiug eo delicious in tho berry lino. It ia a large clumsy-looking berry, but geta nearly block whon dead ripe. It has a high fruit flavor, a fino texture, and some of them mako aoveral mouths ful. DOWNING'S PRIDE. This borry has had a hard strugglo to becomo ac climated In my testing bed, and might do better in other soils. But last sum tnor It throw tho first lino crop of ber ries. Tho yiold was light but tho quality waa very tine. It Is a beautiful-shaped berry, conical and beautifully colored, dark red and shading into light pink and orango. llio uavor is ueucioun. mu berry has a gloss as it varnished and Is a perfect beauty. DOUBLE-CROPPER. This Is a fluo producer and most like a wild strawber ry in flavor of anything I havo found. But it is not a not n double-cropper, un less treated as I treated tho SIcKinley whon almost any kind will throw a secoud crop. It is on tho prluclplo.of nearly all plants, if cut down in the mid die of tho summer thoy will make a heroic effort to reproduce their species and thus comes tho second crop of any thing. MARGUERITE and DUSIAURIER. These aru are two iu)Krts from France and tho latter has proven very thritty. Of tho foimer I have not secured a dozen plants. It may do very much bettor in the future, but thu plants wore nearly dead when thoy arrlvod from Paris. Tho berries on both aro line flavored and very swoet, tho French liko the Spaniards going in forsweotnesa and flavor, while tho popular American varieties must havo a certaiu amount of uuidity.
