Ashfora, Tho rnlns littvo boon plenti ful and warmer, drier weather Is now needed both for cultivation and for fore ing tho bines to grow. Tho vermin nro still troublesome, and washing Is kept In chock owing to the impossibility of getting on tho ground with machines in the present sodden statu of tho soil. Thorols some mould at places, and tho midsummer shoots do not at present look at all healthy or thriving, llrldge and Neighborhood, In thtt best cultivated grounds bluo Is going on well, but thoruis b good deal of weak blnu about, pernio no weak that them can only bo a light crop. Thorn is a decrease of vermin where washing has been thoroughly done, lloughton The blno has madu lltthi progress during tlio past week. Vermin abundant and washing continued. Tlio irregularity uf blno escclally on xmr ground is apparent. Altogether the prospect is not encouraging. Ohilham and Charthum Whoro tho blue has not been washed thorn are plenty of lice, also In the washed grounds there nro n lot loft. Nigger are appearing. Mold wmnni If It will bo a bother this year. Qoldnestono Next Wliijlinm Tho hops which wore first washed aro going on well. Wet weather has hlndorod tlio cleansing process, and hero tho bluo hatiga a bit. On tho whole there Is notljitiK much to complain of. Habbledotvn Wo hnvu had quite onough rain, tho new follago showing a palo unhealthy colour, and tho growth hnsjiotmadu much progress during the past fow days, Tho unwashed hops, of whlchhoro aro still n oonsUorablo quantity (partly owing to the Inclement weather) aro In a very critical state, oven viliero thoroughly attended to, fresh fly and lico apour on tho now growth. Mold Is making rapid strides andjcultlvatlon is practically at a stand still. "Mucks'' are set tor bloom. Ickhatn and Wlckham. Tlio occasion. ed spells of cold weather check the hops and'thore is not that abuudamo of later alsivhlch wo llku to see by now. Not withstanding thu washing tho ermin are very vigorous and mould, is still lu evid ence. A largo proportion of tho blno is very slack, nittlebouruu and Horksbouriio Tho bine growa apace and midsummer shoots arojitrong and healthy. Voriulu stili persisteut slid washing has to bo con tinued, though tho frequeut rains retard the work. A little mould is to bo found, but nothing to causo alarm, Ttiero is uot euough blue to grow a largo crop. Cultivation is good in all grounds jVtkam South and Walthr.ii.. Tho bluo has grown considerably lately, but it full of vermin, and mould is on tho in crease. A fresh deposit of lly has also appeared. Wiuglmui. This Continuous' wot wc&ther hinders cultivation. aud wash lu Tho vermin is veryporUtout with fr4h attacks. This aud cold ulgh'ts prevents the blno from making much held way. iVoodnesborough.-- Whero tho hops aro woll cultivated thoy lmo mado pio gross. When tho weather permits, washing Is In full swing, but tho fly and lico nro very insistent, especially whero the hops nro weak. Hants. Hop growors nro fairly beaten this sen son by tho continued wot weather. Al though fly aro decreasing the nmount nf lico Is slowly and surely Impoverishing thu plants, and where not washed thoy I nro in a very bad way. One growor of fifty acres has only been able to wash on lour uays in mo last lortnignt, ami no doubt others are in tho samo predica ment. Crop prospects aro very had for tho tlmo of year, and unless lino weather sets in speedily so an tho washing ma chines can bo put to work prospects must grow worso. as tho attack of bflght is very bad Indeed. Hiddondon. Tho best washed nnd cultivated grounds aro doing fairly well. There Is n lo of backward weakly blno, that does not get on. Warmer weather Linuch wanted, Canterbury. Under tho Inlluenco of tho hot weather which has prevailed since Sunday thu binu Is making very good progress nnd the prospects' havo improved all around. There is very little ermiu left Kavcrsham District. Tho strongest blno continues to make good progress, and Is throwing out laterals lu good stylo. Many places, especially those that aro not well cultivated, nro slack and uneven. A lot o( washing has Wen done In nil parishes, and tho aphis at tack appears to bo decreasing In vir ulence. Mould has madu its appear ance, and sulphuring will bo started lu a fow days. fit. Htophens. There is very little liuprowiiuout to roort as to the statu of tho plantations In this parish. Vermin very p-nlstont, nnd fresh lly aro con stantly coming, Tonyham. Tho blno In this uolghlwr hood has grown lu tpito of Iho cold nights, but thero is a fresh attaok of lly, and mould Is to bo found lu nearly all grounds, Kaiuham aud Nottlngton. At thu end of the week thu bluo in this district was evidently suffering from tho effect ol tho Maroh-liko woathor thut had prevailed since Thursday, but now with tho heat and sunshlno there is marked improvement. A tavorahlo chaugo of wind Is, however, much desired, There is still a great deal of vermin at places. Wye and lloughton Aluph. Tho blight is very insistent aud things havo not Improved on tho wo k. Thu blnu has grown and thu lieu havo multlpllid Mould threatens seriously. Mil Kent. Around Maidstone thero is still a lot of vermin, but on tho whole loss than Ustvuek. Tho higher temperature of thu last fow days and thu generally im proved weather havo had a marked effect on the bine, which Is still, how ever, Bomowhat backward. Thoro Is mold showing In several grounds. At lloxloy thu binu has grown it good deal since the rains, and with thu warmer and brighter weather of tho present week it has assumed a much more healthy apoaranco. Thoro is still some vermin in all grounds, tint where wash ing has been done tho blno is clean Tho crop is uot likely to bo a largo ono. At Hearstod the prospect Is brlghter, but washing has to be continued owing .to the presence of lico. At Alllngton, Alyeaford and Dlttou, washing has got rid of most of the leriulu, but mold has wade its appearance aud sulphuring will have to lie dono At the Furlomlia aud the Harmiugs a chock was civen to tho M tie by tho cold nights aud rough weather of last week, but since 8undity, with greatly improved conditions, the plants havo mado good progress, and are now looking healthy and strong. The same remarks apply to East and West Mailing, East and West Peckham, tho Tonbrldgo district, Paddock Wood, Brenchley, and the North Kent district. Sussex. The blno in all tho well framed grounds is growing vigorously, although at the end of tho week, owing to the extremely cold and rough weather, it appeared to bo at n standstill. Some grounds aro still infested with vermin, while others are comparatively clean. Worchesttr Hop Retort. Plantation reports very considerably. In tho best cultivated grounds where tho blight has been kept under by per sistent washing, tho blno continues to make fair progress, nnd is now throwing out sldo shoots, but whoro neglected, no Improvement Is visible, and tho severe vermin attack begins to tell upon tho plant, which in many small grounds Is consequently very poor nnd weakly. Moro business than usual at this season is being dono in Worcesters, nnd KM packets 'passed tho public scales last week. 8omo growers aro rather less in clined to sacriflco their hops at the un- remunerative rates recently current, but vnlues nro not appreciably higher.
