ncll rendered, by MIrs Laura Thomas,
who portrayed tlio flighty emotions of

unstinted laughter.
A soprano solo, "1'iirlu" Ardltl, was
executed by Mies Kthcl Raymond in her
usual excellent stylo.
The dramatic ability shown in the
liandllni' of portions of thu "Merchant
of Vonlco" was (surprisingly good, the
work of Miswg Lucy Edwards and Kdna
Hubbard being especially worthy of

quitting themselves very creditably In
deed, Miss Laura Tlionma delivered
Shylcck's speech in Scoim I of Act III
with uxcellent dramatic understanding.

A largo audience of friends greeted
the graduating exercises In tho grammar
grades at Sacred Heart Academy last
night and witnessed presentation of
diplomas and class honors to Misses
Matilda Kckerlln, Ruby Goulet, Addle
Loonov. Carrlo Laurc, August Hucke-
stoln and Christian IJenoIt. The latter
two received prizes for special excel
lence. Tho musical numbers consisted of
piano solos, six -hand and twelve-hand
pieces. Ono novelty not often seen was
a twolvo-hand composition on two In
struments. Miss Ituby Crawford's
"Las Hopo," by Gottscbalk, was a
most finished, performance. The Bt.
Cecilia's orchestra was slvon a recall,
Miss Coleman on the violin and Miss
Kpployon the zither doing very well.
The dumb-bell drill by Mrs. L. Seloy's
class of lioys, and tho patriotic operetta,
"Boys of '70," completed the perform
ance. The children all evinced a naturalness
of deportment that wos very enjoyable.
If thoro had been no failure on the part
of several of the boys In the operetta,
tho whole would havo presontcd a more
finished appearenco. Aa it was, tho
work showed for Itself and none of It was
above what tho children aro capablo of
any day In the wtek. Somo of tlio
