sidered tho question of sprinkling tho
main driving streets from the Southern
Pacific depot to High street. Tho
council will act with tho stato and
county court, and will ask citizens to
co-operate.
The interview with a Salem business
man in Monday evening's Journal at
tracted wlds attention. It hit the bulls
oyo in saying that the authorities should
quit hauling rocks onto the roads. The
roads must first bo made smooth before
it will pay to sprinkle them. The two
movements of smoothing our roads nnd
then laying tho dust should go together.
With tho stato willing to assist, with
tho city and county co-operating iu a
small way oven, with a correct system of
making smooth roads, it is only a ques
tion of Intelligence and enterprise on
tho part of olllclnla, whether we have
improved drlvlnx streets or not. Let It
not bo said of Salem under such favor
able auspices that wo can not have at
least one good drlvoway.
