Tho board of directors of the Salem public schools held a special meeting on Saturday evening, when a city superin tendent nnd four principals were elected for the ensuing year. The election was attended by thn following result: City Superintendent Prof. I). W. Yoder, present Incumbent (re-elected.) Principals J S. Graham (re-elected ;) Mrs. Alice 11. Dodd (re-elected:) G. A. Prentiss, of Jefferson; L. II. Haker, of Lebanon. The election of teachers nnd jnnltors was deferred until next Saturday even Ing. A petition was presented by citizens of South Salem, asking that . J. Crawford be retained as principal of Lincoln school, but it was rejected on a vote of Hi rco to two Messrs. Chamber lain and Johnson voting for Crawford. President Cherrington, on, behalf of tho majority of tho board, represented that thero were complaints from South Salem affecting .Mr. Crawford's reputa tion for disciplino nnd good order, but would not givo the name of nny com plainant. The petition for Mr. Craw ford was practically unanimous. In addition to Mr. Crawford's cti tion, all tho pupils In the principal's room signed n request to tho boafd that ho lie continued.
