while it lasted, and did some damage to

Mr. Wlnstanley, who is acting in
President Jones' stead during tho tat
ter's absence, says in reply to certain
rumors, that not one bale of hops will
bo sent away on consignment under any
clicumstances.

and that unless a change for the better

Thirty thousand more Austrian min
ers have gone on a strike, their employ
ees having refused tho demands for
higher, wages and an eight-hour day.
The total number now out is 70,000, and
before tho end of the week it is expected
that 20,000 others will have Joined.
Tho secretary of tho treasury esti
mates that it will cost $110,800 to defray
the expeneses of collecting the revenue
from customs t tlio ports of Uregou for
the coming lineal year, this service em
ploying 51 men, and $10,507 for a similar
purpose in Alaska.

Washington, was thrown from his-whecl
last ovening and probably fatally injured.
