Comrade Donnett was a bravo soldier, but like many others he died unrequited and not fully recognized by the govern ment he served to loyally. As n mo chnnic he always supKrted himself by his trade as a millright. As n citlxon he was a man of good habits mid cheerful disposition. lie was firm in his politi cal convictions as a life-long Republican, but independent in action when the FRIEDMAN'S NEW RH6K Cor Commercial and State streets, Salem, Ore bi public welfare demanded such action. Liberal, open-hearted, and generous to a fault, he was not able to accumulate much of this world's goods. A plain American citizen, he yet tioseo&sod the sterling virtues and modest worth that made him loved and respected by nil. He was every inch a freeborn patriot, entitled to be called one of the kings among men, because his conduct di cloK.'d nothing but good will toward all mankind. For years Mr. Bennett has reported daily at this oflice. His tall figure, his dignified salute, his kindly gr.etiug to others of the old guard he was wont to meet here, his uncomplaining patience, his good sense and quiet, unobtrusive habits made him an universal favorite and he had not nn enemy in the com munity.
