The voluntary reduction In the prices of bchool books by tho American School Book Company, while Its con tract with thu state has considerable time yot to run, Is a movemont In tho right direction, and will no doubt bo appreciated by tho people of Oregon. This reduction means a saving of 10 to 20 per cent to tho parents of sohool children In thocostof common-school text books. Tho city high school published by this company have for tho last livo years been sold at thu catalogue prices, whtlo tho publica tions at from 16 to 25 percent advance on tholr list prices. Another Interesting fact is that prior to tho last adoption of text books, tho local book dealers charged from 2.1 to 60 per cent advance upon tho publishers' price list. When the 1805 adoption was initdu a largo number of the American Book Com pany's books were selected, and there upon thcrowas a general reduction In rotall prices.
