WBmmmmKmtmKmammmgmmmm DANGER IN BODA Serious Results Sometimes Follow Its Ex cessive Use. Common soda ifl all right In Its place and Indlsnonslble In the kltclien and for cooklngiind washing purposes, but It was never Intended for a medi cine, nnd people who use it as sucli will Hiinc da regret it. We refer to tlic common use of soda to relieve heartburn or sour stomachs, u n.iuiL which uiuusuuua 01 people practice almost anny, una one wincti Is fraught with danger: moreover the soda only gives temporary relief and in the end the stomach trouble gets worse and worse. The soda acts as a mechanical Irri tant to the walls of the stomach and boweh and cases are on record where It accumulated in the intestines, caus ing death by inllamation or periton itis. Dr. Harlandson recommends as the safest and surest cure for sour stom ach (arid dyspcDsIa) an excellent prep aration sold by druggists under the name of Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets. These tablets are large 20 grain loz enges, very pleasant to taste and con tain the natural acids, peptones and digestive elements essential to good digestion, and when taken after meals they digest the food perfectly and promptly before it has time to fer ment, sour and poison the blood and nervous system. Dr. Wuerth states that he invaria blcy uses Stuart's DyspepslaTabletsin ail caes of stomach derangements and llnds them a certain cure not only for sour stomach, but by promptly digest ing the fo"d they create a healthy ap petite, increase llcsh and strengthen the actlrn of the heart and llyer. They are not a cathartic, but Intended only for stomach diseases and weak ness and will be found reliable In any stomach trouble except cancer of the stomach. All druggists sell Stuart's Dypcpsla Tablets at CO cts. per pack age. A little book describing all forms of stomach weakness and their cure mailed free by addressing the Stuart Co. of Marshall, Mich. twinges of rheumatism mitigated, and an Impoverished system renewed by the bitters. A Communication, and Resolutions About Tohn Rmwn nnrt Prnf Hnur1v Eugene, Or., March P. T Editor Register. Will you kindly grant one of Sherman's Bummers a little space In your paper, In defense of John Brown. I sat directly In front of Prof. Ilawley the evening of Feb ruary 25, 1898 and heard him deliver his never-to-be-forgotten lecture (by old soldiers) on John Brown. If John was a thief, murderer, and a robber, why did they erect a monument oyer his grave ? It Is the first incident In my recollection of such a thing eyer being dune, If he died with a He on his lips. Is It not a fact that Harriet Bcecher Stowe did the same thing, as they were both working to burst assundcr the chains and shackles from a million human beings, that were tightly bound, in darkness aud in chains? I will ask If the school history of today, taught In our public schools, Is the same history that Professor Ilawley held high above his head on that evening? If so, I should suggest that they all be gathered together In one huge pile, and put aboard a man-of-war and sent to Cuba to bo used to generate steam for Uncle Sam. I think the young and rising generation, should be taught the true History of the United States of America, and dis card all books that are tainted with treason. There was a time not very many years ago. when It would have been Just as safe for a man to hollo for Abe Lincoln In the South, or Jeff Davis In the North, us It would have been for a professor of a university, to stand in the sacred pul pit of a son of a veteran (M. L. Rose, pastor of the Christian church) and proclaim to six or eight hundred peo ple, that John Brown was an outlaw, a thief, traitor, robber, and murderer, and died with a lie upon his lips. Below will be found the action taken by J. W. Geary, Post No. 7, G. A. R. Department of Oregon, and the W. R. C, No. 4, Department of Oregon, which were unanimously adopted. Respectfully yours, E. F. Chapman, Commander J. W, Geary, Post. f Tloro l Mm rpsnlnt.lnn: Whereas, at a free lecture delivered at the Cli.'istaln church on the even ing of February 20, 1898, by President Ilawley, he stated that John Brown was a traitor, liar, thief and murderer, and Whereas, history disproves such statement as false. Therefore be it Resolved, that the G. A. R. and frlendd assembled on March 4J 1898, not only disaproye said statements, but condemn the language and senti ment, which prompted the same, and which tend to create a sentiment which is not founded on truth.
