At 4 o'clock a partial leport of the credentials committee was received. It was the report of the first congres sional district. The light for president of the leauue again waxed warm, C W. Fulton, of Astoria, having been brought out, but Claud Gatcli, the choice of the Marlon county Republi cans, ana the idol or tne young mem bers of the party In the valley, easily led. During the Interval before the cre dentials committee's report was read, Hon T. T. Gcer was called for ana he appeared on the rostrum and made a few remarks counseling harmony C. W, Fulton was m-xt called out and this champion of it-publlcanlstu responded with a ringing speach in favor of party unity and harmony, warning the delegates that the enemy was watching every move of the Re publicans, and that only by harmony could success attend the efforts of the Republican party In Oregon. His speecli was a great factor in bet tering the feeling. EVENING SESSION. Reassembling at 7:30 o'clock in the evening the crededtlals committee announcedthatit was ready to report. Johnson, of Linn, read the report, which showed ihat 2,018 delegates were entitled to seats. It was pre faced with the follewing: "In view of the loose provisions of the League constitution, in regard to ascertaining the qualifications of del egates or the number of members ac tually upon the rolls of the clubs, upon which representation is claimed, we are compelled to report that the following delegates have prima facie rights to seats in this convention. Your committee feels that it must call the attention of the convention to the apparent stuffing of the rolls of the clubs for the sole purpose of rcpro sentatlon, especially In Multnomah county, by which that county has a representation about double that formerly claimed, and that it deems that it is unjust to the clubs of the outside counties, to come with a gen uine representation aud have It offset by paper clubs and fictitious member ship In Multomah county. It therefore recommends that such amendments of the league constitu tion be adopted as shall confine the representation in league conventions to clubs regularly organized to do Republican work, whoso membership shall have been filed with the secre tary of the league. The delegates were divided as follews: "First district, 133 clubs and 750 dclct? cites "Second district, 126 clubs and 1,202 delegates- delegates from Multno mah county, 969." Johnson moved the adoption of the report as read, but a number of mo tions Intervened to throw out the vote of Multnomah county on account of fraud. Wallace McCamant anti Mitchell) named four clubs which he said had no right to seats in the con vention. W. T. Hume(Mltchell) called atten tion to the McKinly and Ilobart league, of this city, from which Mc Camant wor a delegation, and de clared that It had no standing as a club, and ought not to be represented in the convention. Hume admitted that the rolls of the clubs had been stuffed, and said that he did not care if the entire Mulhnomah delegation, consisting of nearly 1,000 names, was thrown out. The difficulty was fin ally settled by the adoption of the re port of the credentials committee, which seated all the delegates. Nomination for president of the league were then called for. C. W. Fulton, of Astoria, in an enthusiastic speech, nominated Claud Gatch, of Sa lem, and moved that he be declared elected by acclation. The motion pre vailed unanimously, and amid the wildest cheering for the man from the Capital City. lie was escorted to the chair and. In a brief address to the convention, declared himself unquali fiedly in fayor of the gold standard. C. B. Moores, of Salem, then nomi nated C, W.
