The governor's office was swamped with correspondence relat ing 10 the award of asylum bids. They handle about ten thousand dollars or these papers and all bidders are treated with scrupulous equality. In the supreme court the three big guns were wheeled Into action on the supreme bench. Ded jcting this from the grand total of the original delinquent tax" roll representing about $2u,000 leaves a balance of less than $10,000 yet to be collected. July 28, 182o. being the youngest son of a ramlly m eight children. At the age of 1 years he remoyed to Oalesburg, III., where he attended Knox college where iio ti-!iriii!itpri. Vr. Adams atterwaros was ensrai:ed as teacher with great success. His rather died in 1847 and three years later at the age ot 25 years, he crossed the plains overland coming to California, where he remained forty days for recuperation when he sailed for Portland. Or., reaching ihe Oregon metropolis, Sept. 13, 1850. He located a donation land claim In Yamhill innnt.v Mrilnlnlntr Mint of his brother. W. L. Adams and was Joined by his mother and sisters and brother Oliver In 1852. Tn 1854 Mr. Adams removed to Mc- Mlnnville aud became the rounder of the college over which he had charge for trto years, presenting the same totheBantists in 1858. Mr. Adams also founded the city or McMinnville, having erected the first building in that citv. In 1802 Mr. Adams was elected cnuntv clerk ot Yamhill county and was thrice re-elected, and arterwards tor rour years represented "iamhlll countv ns state senator. He settled in Salem in 1809 where lie resided for thirteen years. In 1871 Mr. Adams went to Cincinnati having nrenared a verv va'uable wotk known as "Adams' Illustrated Map ot His tory. " Arter the man had been nub llshed, Mr Adams travelled tor six years sellintr it. On February 5. 1851, Mr. Adams married Miss Martha F. McBride, a native ot St. Louis, Missouri, and the daughter or Mr. James McBride by tliis marriaire there weie tnir chil dren, or whom two are living The daughter, Emma, Is now the wire oi Geo. Rheal, a lady or fine lit t- ary attainment, who died Deccmbe 8. 1888. Mr. Adams married bis pres ent wire June 12, 1890. She was Mrs Sarah Babcock, a native ot Jefferson county, New York. The runeral at the late residence or the deceased will be a pri vate one, held at 2 p. m., Friday, by Rey Copeland. Rey. C Brown, on South Commercial street, .at 0:30p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 1898, John Cornell, aged 05 years, or gangrene of the toot. Funeral services were conducted from Mr. Brown's residence at 2 p m. today, Rev. W. C. Kantner, officiating and the remains were Interred in the I. O. O. F. cemetery, Mary, wife of F. S Barzee, died at The Dalles, Wednesday, aged 49 years. Deceased was a sisterof Mrs. J.Macey, or tills city, who was present at her bedside when death occurred. The remains were shipped to Turner today and the fundral will bo held from the Christian church there, Friday after noon, the deceased linvlnc hppn n faithful member of that church for many years. A large concourse of sympathizing friends assembled at the Scott home in South Salem Wednesday afternoon i.W.a last tribute or respect to Miss Allle Scott, whoso sudden death oc curred early Monday morning. Many beautirul rioral pieces were given by friends or the deceased. The funeral party left this morning for Miller's cemetery four miles north of Silyerton where the remains were Interred. MARRIED.
