To counteract this stimulus to the free silver movement, you drew on your regular stock In trade of false hood and deceit, seeing truth and facts would not sustain you, and wrote your editorial, "Not a Silver Victory." There's an urt In lying, and you have practiced that art with such bold effrontery that your fabrications of untruth mako very plausible read ing and as a rule deceive those of your readers who have not other In formation at hand. You may suppress this protest, as you have other protests from myself and others, as you dare not open ono of your columns to a fair discussion on the money Issue, but you depend on a muzzled press and the deceiving of your readers to maintain your cause. This habit of deceiving your readers on the money Issue Is ouo of long standing with yourself, either by tell ing half tho truth and omitting the rest (which Is ono of the surest ways to deceive, and your usual mode of pro cedure,) or when that falls by resort ing to wilfully malicious false state ments of which your editorial, "Not A Silver Victory" Is a fair sample. Mayor Taggart, of Indianapolis, Democrat, who hasjust been rc-olectcd by a largo majority, Is not a sliver man, as might bo lnfcrrcdfifrom the telegraphic report. 'Ic is an out-and- out gold standard man, and stands In with liyfauin and other Gold Demo crats against silver fallacies. He Is re-elected becauso ho lias proved to be an excellent mayor, and has the confi dence of the citizens. Ho owns one of the chief hptels of the city, Is a largo manufacturer, and has high standing In business. It la absurd to say that tlio reelection of this solid gold standard Democrat, on his excellent business record, is a silver victory. Indianapolis, though Democrat lo on common Issues, gayo 1000 majority last fall for McKlqley as tne represen tative of the gold standard. Mayor Taggart was ono uf tho thousands of Democrats who refused to vote for llryun, but yoted either for MoKlnley or Palmer. The same people who gave McKlnley and sound money a great majority at Indianapolis last fall throw their votes on Tuesday last for Taggart, because ho is for tho gold standard, and becauso ho has adminis trated tho affairs of the municipality for the 'ast two years on approved bus iness principles.
