An Astoria private dispitch from Clifton states that John Falangos a resident of that place for the past six years, was killed by the caving of an embankment on the grade of the Astoria & Columbia River railroad Falongosand seyeral other residents of Clifton -were working on the grade when without warning an enormous quantity of earth came down burying three of the men. All possible haste was made to remove the earth, but when the body of Folongos was taken out life was found to be extinct. The other two were badly injured. At Hillsboro Monday, while return ing from a drive, the horse of C.Schul merlch, ex-county commissioner and senior member of the firm of Schul merich & Son of this city, shied at some teamsters at the side oi the road, upsetting the buggy. Schulmurich's head was badly cut and his body con siderably bruised. Ills wounds were painful, but not necessarily fatal. Mr. Schulmerich's daughter, who was also in the buggy, escaped uninjured C. P. Glvens, of King's vallcy, glves the particulars of a bold robbery, which took place last Saturday after noon, about 4 o'clock, on the road be tween Alrlieand King's Vallcy.in the Fuller canyon. A man of the name of Bears was walking from Indepen dence to his home on Yaqulna bay, when two masked men came out of tho bushes, held him up and secured $10,whlch he had earned drying hops. The robbers escaped on horseback. When thev first stopped him, Mr. Bears threw down his pack of cloth ing and told them to take that, but they said they were after money only, and proceeded to go through his pock ets. Mr. Bears tried to get assistance and follow the robbers, but there was no one at home at R. L. Williams', the nearest rjlace, and by that time his assailants were too far away for pursuit, and no effort has since been made to arrest them. It Is reported In Wallowa, that rich placer strikes haye been made on the head of Bear creek, 15 miles west of Lostlne. The diggings have been lo cated in a basin on the east prong of Bear creek, which contains the yel low metal. The creek has been staked off for several mile, sjaud scores of prospestors line the mountain. Koveral loads of lumber have been taken from Wallowa to build sluicc hoxes. The find was made by three prospectors, who have beca proepect- ing In that region ior auo iuao months. DANGEROUS IP NO FATAL. The Tertible.tnjuries of Ezra Wyatt- Hers: Ran way. THE MARkfcttJ. One cheek Is literally torn from his face, oue ear is torn completely away, tie Jaw Is fractured and the base of the brain, the dootors.say, Injured. There arc also internal injuries, the extent and nature of which arc not known. While persons as badly Injured may have In single Instance recovered, there is not one chance In a hundred, that Mr. Wyatt will recover. He has been since Sunday evening totally unconscious, unable even to recount to relatives about his bedside the tragic story of how he was hurt. Mr. Wyatt's injuries are supposed to be tho result of an accident. He Is a minister in the United Brethren church, and last week went to Linn county to attend coherence. He traveled in a cart, and during Sin day afternoon had preached a sermon at Hamilton Creek. In thr evening he was to preach at Plainvlew, mid way on the road between Lebanon and Brownsville. Ho was en route to Plainvlew when the nccldent hap pened. Among several other persons that he passed along the road were two men. Two hundred yards from the spot where they last saw lilm the attention or these two men was at tracted by heavy breathing along the roadside. They Investigated and found Mr. Wyatt In an unconscious condition, covered with blood, Injuries and bruises as described above, The horse and cart was nowhero to be seen. An investigation of the surround ings indicates that the horse had run away, and that, being thrown out of the vehicle, the injured man had been dragged a distance of seventy or eighty yards. The men quickly se cured help and the sufferer was taken to Plainvlew, six miles south of Leb anon, where he now lies. Dr. Starr, of Brownsville, and Dr. Foley, of Lebanon, were both summon ed and Monday afternoon Dr. Davis, of Albany, was also called into the case. It had been planned to attempt a difficult operation Monday evening, but arter consultation the plan was given up by the surgeons as useless or Impossible. Mr. Wyatt is the eldest son or Wil liam Wyatt, the well-known Benton county pioneer, Ills home Is In Phil omath and besides himself, a wife, two sons, and two daughters are Its Inmates. He is aged about fifty-seven years. The dreadful accident has roused profound Interest and much sympathy Is expressed ty frleuds and acquaintances. Rev. E. C. Wyatt, who was Injured as above, died Tuesday night. .1 Another Divorce Case.
