today. The doctor came to Corvallis

him some-pain for the time being. He
was heartily greeted by the "old

referred the matter of adjusting the
insurance upon the various school

mittee was approved.
In the list of claims allowed, Vicko
& Gray's bill for 8100 was the con
tract price agreed upon for plastering
two rooms in the Lincoln school build

The board then adjourntd until 7:30
o'clock Monday evening, Oct. 11 when
it will convene in special session.

A Careless Bicyclist.
Sunday morning, Mrs. G. L. Brown,
wife of Marion county's treasurer,
while out wheeling her little child,
experienced a collision with a bicyclist
that fortunately had no serious re
sults. Mrs. Brown was walking north
on the west side of Winter street,
alongside the high board fence that
encloses the grounds of St. Joseph's
Catholic society, between Chemekcta
and Center streets. As the baby car
riage passed onto the Center street
walk, a wheel ridden at a dangeiuus
rateof speed, by a careless wheelman,
struck the baby carriage directly be
tween the two wheels, throwing the
litte occupant about six feet besides
almost completely demolishing the
baby chicle. The bicyclist picked
himself up near the middle of the
street, and having satisfied hlmselr
that his wheel was not in the least
impaired by the accident, jumped
astride his silent steed and left the
scene at once without eyen ascertain
ing the injune.) of the little baby or
the trouble or inconvenience be had
caused the lady by his reckless per
formance. Fortunately the baby was
not injured in the least but the buggy
was almost made unQt for further
service. Mrs. Brown did not know
the young man, or his name would
have been given prominence in this
