The weather occame clear Saturday after noon and Sunday, svlth a rising tem perature; the maximum temperatures of the week occurred today, .which ranged from 80 degrees to 93 degrees. The mc.in temperature for 'the week, 03 degrees, Is the same as the preced ing week, and is the normal for this period of the year. The 'day temper ature averaged 74 degrees, and the night f.50 degrees. The umount of sunshine has beon about normal. Crops. The weather has been ex ceedingly favorable for growth. The general crop conditions can be Slim med up as excellent. Hay which on June 1st was thought to be a short crop, now Is conslaered an average crop, the weather Imp been favorable. to curing and putting away the hay. Considerable wheat and oats hay still remains to be cut. The second crop of alfalfa Is being cut. Harvest of fall-sown wheat is in full progress and an excellent crop Is re ported. Correspondents report that never before was the grain such a good crop. The heads arc large and well filled, and the berry Is large and plump. Fallsown oats will be ready to cut this week. Spring-sown wheat and oats are ex ceeding all expectations ingrowth, developemcnt and prospects, and as now they are beyond Injury, a very large yield of an excellent quaality Is assured. Corn Is silking out, and the corre spondents report the best, corn crop ever grown In Oregon. Hops are in bloom. The dry weather and sun shine have checked the deyelopement and ravagesof t!u ho,) mia, with the result th.it the hop prospsct-s are im proved. Buckwheat, barley, (lax for tibcr and sugar beets, all arc making line giowlh. Garden produce Is unusually plenti ful; the growth has been wonderful, even tor Oregon. Potatoes are a heavy crop in every section. Watermelons arc ripe in the southern counties; they and ull other melons arc more than an average crop. Berries are more plentiful than ever been before. Early peaches, apples.i and plums are ripe and very plentiful. The prune, apple and pear crop will b2 far superior to what was expected, and the total product will, as reported bj larger than ever before. Tim wither conditions are favor- Suffered Eighteen Years. 'mauion county chops A drive through tho country at this eTion Is a inmi pl asant rxp-Tli-nce The roads arc supuib and the farms cnrywhcro present an attractive up pcarance. Tie hay crop Is about all cared for, and the harvesting of grain Is beginning, nil hands being vciy busy. There Is a good prune crop, al though the orcliarcU vary consider ably. The Pctltcs and Silvers are scarce nearly everywhere, while the Italians run from half a crop to nil the trees will bear up. Apples and pears seem to be plentiful everywhere, and whllo many growers thinks wormy fruit is scarcer than usual, few if any orchards arc free from them. Many of the old-time grain farmers hesitate about taking up fruit cult ure as a buslneis, thinking the mar ket too unsatisfactory, yet It must bo admitted that fruit raising Is bound totbe a great thing for our state. Most growers are making a fair prolit on the business, and those operating un der the most favorable conditions nrc doing well Indeed. In the meantime the communities In which much fruit Is raised arc bound to prosper, as large sums of money must uecessarlly be spsnt caring for and harvesting the crop. This circulates freqly, to the reat advantage of all. Six week ago the outlook for the grain was very discouraging, but the Willamette valley has been true to traditions, and comes out of the most untoward conditions wjth a good crop. It will not be a large yield by any means, but fair judges think the average yield of wheat will be from 20 to 25 bushels per acre. Tilrty bush els is considered a good crop, and while many pieces will reach that or more, It Is above the average for this season, yet all arc more tlan pleased with the fine yield considering the dreary outlook early in the summer. All other small gral na run , about the same as wheat. It is gratifying to nof.e that the number of corn fields and clover plata are Increasing from year to year. It was thought for many-years that Or egon was not fitted forbtuese two valu able crops, but it is now being demon strated that In favored locallttes they can be produced with good results. The Increased production of these crops means increased wealth for tho state, and the Willamette valley has many places most favorably, adapted to their culture. Greater diversity of crops must be' the ultimate salvation ot the ,Oregon farmer. F,ruit alone cinnot solve the problem, but it will tike, stock, hogs, hops, glass and dai rying as well. The hop crop is giving operators considerable encouragement, although in some localities the lice arc attack-' ing them terribly, while in other yards there are scarcely any. The yards on the hills arc said to be quite freo from the pest, while those on the J bottomlands, those that were idle ( last -year, especially about Eola, arc badly Infested. Some of those yards are now having the overhead vines cut down, and spraying will be com menced forthwith. It will take seyeral sprayings of quassia chips and whale oil soap to free the yards from the aphis, when it Ir thought a good crop will develop. O. C. & E. R. R. CO. GIVES STRENGTH TO MEN, It is remarkable fact that a rran never ap preciates the sufferings o( others until he himself, has passed through the fire of pain or remorse. Then it is that he looks around for those who are suffering he wants them to prolit by his experience , he gives his lime ana money gladly for the benefit andj never tires of his zeal. There are plenty of men weak and worn out, strucglinrr. with remorse and fear, and the natural outcome of habits that brought incapacity a sense of lonesoroeuess and a feeling as if the best side of life had been banished forever. Such men should write to Thomas Slater, Box 390, Kalamazoo, Mich. He will send free of charge by mail, in a plain sealed envelope full particulars about the method Jic used, and this will enable any man to get a complete cure at home. It is the method Mr, Slater used to cure himself of the troubler that sap the strenght and vigor. The cure was so complete, 10 satisifying and such wonderful change from his former condition that he will gladly tell others all about it, sending all particulars, lie figures that he doesn't know of a better way to show his ap preciation of his own cure and the sufferings of others. There must bo generous men in this world to ofl.iet the tide of avarice. Write to Mr. Slater, it will cost nothing for his des cription Bad method " rj Mliilils i -" .
