A GOOD SHOWING. WHAT A REPORTER LEARNED ABOUT A CERTAIN MEDICINE, Several Persons Testify to the Good Results Following Its Use, and Druggists Tell of Its Sale. yrom the Journal, There is tme proprietary medicine in use in this tjty, the name of which has become a household, word and that is the preparation known a "Pink Pills for Pale People." Shakespeare said, "a rose by any other same would smell as sweet." That may be so, but pills by any other name would not have the same attraction nor popular sales that Pink Pills have in Spokane, Wash. A representative of the Minneapolis Jotir nal started out the other day to investigate the merits of this popular and widely-eold household medicine. The evidence was on every hand. Hamilton B. Merrill, a young money loauer of Spokane, Wash., wasseen by the newspaper man. Mr. Merrill made no secret of his remarkable cure by these little pellets. " Do I know the efficacy of Pink Pills? " he reiterated. " I Bhould rather think I do, they have been a hieing to me. I am not iu the habit of praising proprietary medicine, hut I must say that Pink Pills as far as my cose goes have no equal in the world. A little ever a year ago I began ailing and com. sienccd to lose tlcsh rapidly. The doctor told me to stop smoking, this I did. but the result was even worse. My heart beats de creased to less than forty a minute. 1 was prescribed for by my doctor, but without re ceiving any benefit whatever. I continued daily to grow worse and my parents became alarmed over my condition. Some one sug gested Pink Pills, I thought I would try them anyway. And I tell you that I cannot endorse them too highly, they worked like a harm in my case. My heart soon became ormal again, my flesh increased and I felt like a new man. To tell you the truth I am still taking them. I have a sort of fondness for them yet nnd I am loath to give them up. "I know or a young lady living in this city, whoso" condition was even worse than raine. she took Pink Pills and is one of so ciety's gayest young ladies now. I wish I were at liberty to give her name, as I am tare she would only be too delighted to give them a hearty seud off. I believe Pink Pills cannot be too highly recommended. They are gems, indeed' Mr. Merrill is a young man of twenty-two or twenty-three years of age and to-day is the pink of health. Ho has a splendid com plexion and would be the last person to be taken for one who had been so seriously ill only a few inonthe ago. He hi a splendid athlete besides and moves in the best circles of society here. Frank Ether, a fireman at No. 3 Station House, is a regular purchaser of Pink Pills. Mr. hthcr was seen by the correspondent yesterday and asked whether the pills were doing him good. He laughed. "Do I look like a sick man ?" he answered. " No, the purchases are not made for me, bnt for my father, Frank J. Ether, who is a former at Priest River, Idaho. He has been afflicted with rheumatism for years ail has tried every remedy known to the medical profes sion, but all to no avail. Some months ago he began the use of Pink Pills and has im proved rapidly ever since, no writes me that he feels like a pew man again. He is so much attached to the little pills, that every time he writes me, he mentions them mid directs me to tend him several packages more. I usually purchase two or three dol lars worth ut a time. If I ever should be come debilitated in any way, I think I know wbat my remedy would be, judging from the efficacy of Pink Pills in my 'nther'scase." The drug venders of this city are unani mous in tlirir recommendation of Pink Pills and say thu their sales surpass any other like proprietary medieine in their stock. G. G. Eiwigtold the correspondent that liis ales were very large. " Pink Pills go like SAMPLES. Information'for Persons Receiving Copies of This Issue. CASTOR I A For Infants and Children, TiSftC- italli eijastnrs bet J. & tun 'CtfcAtte OS??; APAfSM i Merchant at Sweet Home. ! An Ex-Member Discloses a Polit-j ical Scheme. . Editor Journal: I notice a piece fcln tho Journal a few days ago In re gard to the A. T. A. being a poll t I leal organization. I wish to give tho public my experience with the order. I A minister first lectured on A. P. Alsm in Sweet Home the latter part of 1895. I listened very attentively and I expected the Catholics to break out in a short time and soon a or ganizer came to Sweet Home and or nauized a lodge, and by chance (?)a majority of the members were Repub licans and the president and secretary were Republicans, elected tho first night. Everything went well until about April, 1896, a letter was sent to this lodge warning the members against McKlnley, who was aspiring for the nomination for president. By chance a Democratic member found out such a letter had been received and waited patiently for the letter to be read, but In vain. The lodge was dismissed without any mention of the letter. So tho Democrat who know of the letter complained after dis missal and a few of us called for the letter, and the president said it did not amount to anything as McKlnley was not nominated yet. Mutiny almost followed. But nothing more was said or done to shock our confi dence until la few days before the presidential election. The order met the last Monday night In October and no business of importance came up but a special meeting wa called for the next Monday night which was the night before the ejection. The object for the special was not known to the Bryan members until "bills and communications" came in order, then the secretary read a communica tion from :the Grand lodge warning the members against Bryan, as he had favored the Catholics, but the communication was made up of news paper clippings -and the letter against McKinley was sworn testimony by an A. P. A. Some of the members said in defense of the 'McKinley side that the reason the letter came out against McKlnley was that tho order "wanted Linton and when they failed to get Linton they must support McKlnley. The Portlander said: "We do not want to contorl your votes nor in lluence you to vote for any certain man, but desire you at all hazards to vote against Bryant or In words that express the same. Now we go back to the letter; but when the letter against Bryan was read and discussed I called for the letter tho lodge had received against McKlnley which was In defense of Bryan. Tho president ordered the McKinley letter read so the secretary read a long letter against McKlnley and when he had finished and took his seat, I asked if any mem ber in the house had ever heard or saw that letter before. One Republi can said he had seen the letter. Tho trouble was the- secretary had got hold of the wrong letter, one that the Bryan men had never 6een or heard of a letter they had received- but kept concealed. The president seeing the) mistake ordered the secretary to read the other letter which ho did. Boat the next meeting of the lodge when the president was proceeding with busi ness when ho came to "for tho good of the order" I told him it would probably bo-for tho good of the order for my name to be stricken from the books which was done. The lodge here is called, the McKlnley club as the Bryan men have withdrawn except one or two,. Tbeq the letters that camo to the lodge were very secret except tho letters against Bryan, they were given to the public. This caused a "ruflld in tho calm" and I spoke of the McKinley letters In public and some of the McKlnley ites said I did not regard the oath I had taken. Well some may think I may not re gard my oath but I do, and I think when the order violated their obliga tion to its members I do not consider tho oath binding in the least. One man who became a member of the A. P, A, order and who was a Republican told mo In the presence of others thntho Joined tho order know ing that It was a Republican scheme, left tho order and voted, for .Bryan, and hired a hall for Democratic apeak- ' J ers,and paid for hall out of his own pocket. Salem Statesman editorial: Mr. Gage, who Is to be the secretary of the treasury in the McKlnley admin istration, is no dcubt a very good citi zen, and a level neaaea ana conserva tive business man. We believe he will make for the country a good of ficial in that capacity. But hisefforts will be confined to the departmental tho head of which he Is to be placed. Ho will not be the administration. And he will not assume any of the leg islative functions enjoyed only by congress. Perhaps this la well, too. Evidence is accumulating that Mr. Gage is a somewhat narrow man, not only In his views but in his sympa thies. Perhaps this is duo to his train ing and his environment. Likely he will acquire a more statesmanlike sweep of affairs as his field of practi cal observation broaden. We hope so. It is well known thnt during thegrcat crisis of 1895, when the banks were strained to tho utmost of their strength and wisdom to prevent the panic that was threatened on an un precedented scale, and all possible help was needed for them. Mr. Gage preferred looking after himself, at the expense of the general banking body. If the great New York banks, and those generally throughout the coun try, had adopted his policy,a universal crash would have been Inevitable. In respect of his attitude to other banks, also, Mr. Gage differed from that usu ally adopted. When an honest bank was in trouble, anywhere in the coun try, the disposition on the part of Its colleagues was to help it. Under Blmllar circumstances the policy of Mr. Gage was to let the rival institu tion die. We are very much pleased with Mr. Gage's proposed appoltment as secretary of the treasury. Wo would not want him for president. He would not be u safe man to make the laws, not until he hud acquired broader views. Immigration Notes. The Oregon and W ashlngton Boards are doing good work and should be liberally supported and encouraged. As u result of this work many eastern people are turning their attention to the Pacific Northwest. If the reader has any friends in the east who are likely totjorne heie this year send their names and addresses to tho undersigned and I will see that they geta supply of the best literature and full information as to this country. The Methodllof a Great Treat ment forOWeakness jof Men. Which Cured Him lAfter Everything Else Failed. Painful diseases are bad enough, but when a man is slowly wasting away with nervous weakness.the mental forbodings are ten times worse than the most severe paiu. There is no Jet up to the mental suffering day or night, Steer, is almost impossible and under such a strain men ate scarcely responsible for what they do. For years the writer rolled and tossed on the troubled sea of s xual weakness until it was a question whether he had not better take a dose of poison and thus ends all his ttoubles. But providential inspira tion came to his aid in the shape of a combi nation of medicines that not only completely restored the general health, but enlarged his weak and emaciated parts to natural size and vigor, and be now declares that any man who will take the trouble to send his name and address may have the method of this wonder ful treatment free. Now when I say free I mean absolutely without cost, because I want every weakened man to get the benefit of my exnzrience, I am not a nhilanthropist, nor do I pose as an enthusiast, but there are thousands of men suffering the tortures of weakened manhood who would be cured at once could they but get such a remedy as the one that curerd l me. Do not try to stuay out now i can awora to pay the few postage stamps necessary to mail the informrtion, but send for it and learn that there ate a few things on earth that although they coft nothing to get they are worth a fortune to some men and mean to lifetime of happiness to most oi us.
