S. Belle, was entered by burglars and quite thoroughly ransacked but thus far nothing of any value has been found mlstdng. On the lloor about the counter on which the cash register stands, were several lighted matches and in open ing the cash register the burglar pressed two of tho keys Instead of one. Fortunately last oveulng Mr. Hollo removed all money from the register. A largo quantity of trlpleplated silverware which was lying on tho olllce desk was not In the least dis turbed proving conclusively that the only motive for tho perpetration of tho crime was money. The first attempt at employing force to get possession 0f the speakers chair and prcyent speaker pro tempore from occupying the chair was made this morning at "o'clock. Ten men, specials of the Salem police force, had been swornln as assistant sorgcant-at-arms .last night to keep Speaker Davis out of the chair. Hoforo he reached the steps to the speaker's platform he was met by the ergeant-at-arui9 who said: "In the name of the State Oregon, I warn you not to enter the speaker's stand or at tempt to occupy the chair." Davis called on the bystanders to witness the forcible efforts to prevent bis tak ing the chair. Ho had made up his mind to oiler no force, but to Juiiid behind the clerk's desk and call the house to order while they were guard ing the steps. At four minutes to 0 Speaker Davis was followed by a posse of assistants that advanced at the snapof Sergeant-nt-arms Murphy's fingers. Davis wore a calm Indifferent look and was as cool as a cucumber. At one minute too o'clock Speaker Davis was escorted to the sneaker's chair to call the house to order. He was met by a body of the Salem spec ial police sworn in ns assistant J-c r-geaiit-at-arms' who resisted him.
