Honest John SLcrman want no more silver coined until the Rovern merit puts a dollar's' worth 'of the demonetized bullion Into the dollar. Of course, If that were done the bul lion would uo up and the dollar "would not circulate. Is that wliafr he wants? "Wc repeat, watch silver &o down toJOccntsaneuncc. All tho owners of A vernlis ennnnt, stnn It,. A ni timn It will still slide on down to 40 cents." ' In connection with Sherman's de mand, note the above from the Salem Statesman. A small piece of straw shows that the direction of the wind. Is the Statesman really happy InpUr fuelnn this course? Before elect Ion It berated tlieOreponlan for Its hostility to silver,-alleging that Republicans were friends of silver, wanted to Up hold silver, etc. Does It .seek by this course to stand well with McIClnlcy and the bankers? It Is really an, American policy to fight silver down, any more than to light down the price of any other great product of our country? Islt Ameri can to cry down tho price of silver when who export $50,000,000 worth a year? Is it not an American labor product and are not mines American Industries? These men who cry down 6llver aro hardly to be classed as American pa trloLs. "When It Is considered that 1)00,000,000 of people know no other metal for money but silver, and that the gold countries use our cheap silver to buy cheap products with and by t lila tmiitntit I f Inn out. Mm llfn itif rt American farm products, the man' who cries down silver Is little less than a Tory In disguise. THE OREGON DISGRACE. The masses of the people outside of tho cities gave mujortles for Bryan and free silver. So did every state west and south, except where the voters were overpowered by corpora tlon inlluence. Yet there Is a newspaper in Oregon which sayseditorially all who voted for Bryan represented repudiation anci anarchy. Suoli a newspaper Is a dis grace to Oregon, and unfortunately, Is the only metropolitan paper In Ore gon. Outside of -Portland, Oregon, was strongly for Bryan. Outside four wards of Salem, Marlon county was strongly for Bryan. It Is to be re gretted that those who depend 0 much on the country people for busi ness and good will to make a living should be put In the attitude tho Oregonlan places them. It virtually says all who voted for Bryan belong to the criminal classes. The only way to resent tho Insult of the Oregonlan, when it calls people who isupported anarchy and arson, thieves, etc., is for those people to not buy the Oregonlan, nor trade with Its supporters at Portland. The sup porters of Bryan are a social force, consisting of a majority of the people of Oregon outside of Portlandi and a majority Is always respectable. STATE NEWS.
