Overcome by Foul Air. Hillsuoro, Or., Sept. l.Lowls Hartwtckcr, living four miles north of Greenville, was ovcrcomo whlla.cn gaged in digging n well on his farm yesterday, and died before ho could bo raised to the surface. The well was now and was down to the depth of about forty feet, when Hurtwlcker called to his helper to haul him up, as ho was smothering. In hauling him up, Hartwlckcr probably being scml-consciousilsbodycaught against tho sides of tho well nnd ho was thrown from tho bucket. A half-hour elapsed before aid was secured, at tho end of which tho body was raised, but life was gone. Lowls Carstents, who was let down in the woll to fasten a rope around tho unforunatc man's body, was com pletely overcome by the foul ulr when brought to tho surface, notwithstand ing ho was In tho well nut longer than ono minute. Tho deceased was about forty years old, a bachelor, and was tho owner of a wclMumroved small farm of hlsoyn. Thrown Down Hill. Seattle, Kept. 1. News reached this city ot the accidental death nt the Blewltt gold mines, near Biowltt, Kittitas county, on last Friday ovon Ing of Captain Jack Crawford, who claimed to bo tho original poet scout. Bollo Mclnert, u 10-year-old girl attempted sulcldo by shooting herself becauso her lover, Joseph -Cunco, said that ho no longer cared for her. Cunco Is a carpenter, 23 years old, and lives with his parents at 2133 Howard street. He promised to visit tho girl at hor home 1312 Nebraska street earlier In the evening but did not do so. The girl, after waiting for a while, set out to ilnd him. Sho visited, a saloon on tho corner of Flfteonth and Minna streets which Cutieo frequented and found him playing cards. Sho called him out and tho two walked together out Howard street, discussing their love affairs. Cuneo told tho girl ho could no longer keep company with her.
