Patriotic Speaking Immense Dinner and Other Vital Issues Discussed. The Fourth of July celebration In Aumsvllle was a success. The day was bright and warm. The grove was cool and pleasant. The crowd of people were immonso beyond all ex pectation. The scats provided for all ' were not sulllclent. Aumsvllle never i before had so many people within her ! limits, and all happy good natured people. There were no drunks, no ! profane nor vulgar men, no Populist, no Ileniibllcun, no Democrats, and only ono woman suffragist upon tho ground. All wore bent upon celebrat ing the Fourth of July. All of our ercit dejid men wero praised. Wash ington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Grant and Sherman received duo praise, but the living great were Ignored. Cleveland, McKMcy, Weaver, Teller and Blaud were tint mentioned, and what seemed strange, no one wanted to hear about them. Silver circulated freely at tho different stands, but It was not "free" as nil wanted lcmonade,pop or peanuts In exchange. Chairman Cummlngs, of Shaw, did himself proud. Tho reading of tho Declaration of Independence was well rendered tho best wo ever heard. The speaker of tho day was Hon. Win. Galloway, of Yamhill. Ho claimed that his hill was a better hill than the Waldo hill although he thought tho Waldo hill .was fair to good. Ills speech was full of other patriotic expressions. Ills belief in the old "ship of stato" was good, be lieving that she Is well built and sailing in deep water where there Is no dancer of the sharp rocks of tho many, Isms Injuring her. Ho still be lieves in tho present and the future believing tlmt thero urens many good men living in this generation as In any other generation. But although lie did rake over tho dead hcros, lie did not daro mention the names of the living ones. It was an infringe ment upon his instructions "not to talk politics," to admit that tho present held anything good, or the future any encouragement. But whether tho bright light that he saw In tho future was to be tho result of a Populist, Democratic or Republican victory will never bo known. After dinner, (and 6uch a dinner,) everbody brought their best and mortgaged their future dinner a little to make It better. Wc must not omit to mention "the car of liberty" forty-six young girls dressed In white with crowns upon their heads, seated upon a wagon handsomely decorated In national colors, the goddess of liberty, Miss Elllc Anderson assisted by "Misses Porter and Reed could not have been better, all were proud of our goddess of liberty, her lino figure was Just right, and her natural bearing was superb.thc selection was a wise one. The celebration was a grand suc cess. The people of Aumsvllls wcro satlslled. All who came were satisfied The standkeepers were satisfied with the results of their sales. The day was chuck full of good things to en tertain, tho night with a splendid dis play of lire works and the young peo ple danced away tho rest of the night, crowding Sunday morning very badly.
