Tho Republication Salem precincts arc consulting as to slates of delegates and the strongest men are being put to tho front. In Salem No. 3 no agree ment as to a slate has been reached. It Is tho large ward and has a big floating vote. There has been money ucd in this ward In the past and it Is to bo hoped a satisfactory slato can bo arranged and a fight avoided in which the floating voto would bo bid for by the rival factions. But beforo tho legislature met there might be great changes. In the last legislature ho was a Dolph man, but finally changed to A aldo. lie did not know whether Mr. Dolph would bo a candidate or not. If he was a candidate ho was keeping mighty still about it. Ho was not in town on politics but purely on busi ness. Last year some wealthy citizens of Boston heard rumors of Immense gold bearing deposits at Cook's Inlet, nncl A, Pennock an experienced miner, was sent to view the country. Pennock made u thorough search for tho shining metal, and, in his opinion was successful beyond ques tion. He, with a few friends, nt once measured over ten acres of laud which showed gold from the grass roots on tho bedrock, Wntes rights were secured and Hie prospectors washed out a few ounces and started for Boston.
