Somo of the fowl were feed ing on tho weaker and maimed ones. Mr. McCurrle summoned Secretary C. 31. Ilolbrook, and together they mado an investigation that throwsa Htrango light upon the handling poultry for markets of this city. After Fodcra tried to explain that ho would pay for the II vo chickens only and that he got them from Jacobson &Co., Mr. Ilolbrook had tho crates opened and all tho maimed and suffer ing ones killed. Fodera told his boy to tako the dead birds and put them In the hole. Mr. Ilolbrook thought it might prove interesting to find out who takes them out of this rcccptable. When Jacobscn was seen lie put the blame on tho fact that the Palace chicken car that brought the 4800 con signed to him from north, had been delayed by a washout, and said ho was trying to get them out of tho car as fast as ho could. He has no explana tion to oiTcr as to why ho put so many In ii crate, other than tho fact that he did not have a sufflclcnt number of theso receptacles. Mr. Ilolbrook said: "It Is the worst case I have over seen. In such charges one puts tho blamo upon another, and It is not always easy to locato tho o'ilonder.
