Boss Gompers and Boes Powderly fefcad to go. It 1b a cold day for boeses ffromNew York to Cullfbruln. Astoria la a good town, but will bo a abetter when that railroad Is built from IBa'em to the sen. Salem la a towu that hue never bad a failure, has never gone back and If P going ahead at a right smart rate In the future. If the Oregon I'acifio Is sold to h right parties a branch will at once J built via. Motama, Salem and Aotorlc to the sea. Portland bossism will have abou worn Itself out and run Its last race in Oregon when the people got througl with it this time. If the people are not given a mtro liberal system of finance they may br driven to silver basis. When tbey gr to that they will go with a vengrance A Christinas tree for tho little onef should be on the bill of fare in every family Monday night. Those wbo have no little ones should havp tho trei anyhow. When the earnest young Itepubll cans, who controlled the fortunes of tb Salem Independent for a while Ipb! season, left it, nothing but a bag of Dakota wind was left in charge and that makes very poor ballast. The young Republicans of Oregon are opposed to offensive Portland boss lam overriding the leglsltaure and tho whole state government any longer. And some of the older ones have felt that way for some time. The proposition to farm one hundred acres of land with deaf mutes is not u good one. But if the new building on the farm is not occupied by them a new slate institute will be forced upon the state which the people of Oregon are not prepared to stand at present. The way tne women knocked tho Populists silly in Colorado, Kansas, North Dakota, and Wyoming, It Is no wonder Governor Fletcher of the Popu list Independent does not want them to vote in Oregon. He wants the Pop ulist party to stay on earth. la the month of November, 1894,the exports from this country were f 1,000, 030 Jess and the Imports wero $7,000, 000 more than in November, 1803. This la a difference the wrong way of f 11, 000,000, and represents just that much loss to American labor and production. That Is a dollar apiece for each Amor loan voter. The oiler of tho Southern Pacific road, said to be now made, to glvo Salem a straight 10 cents a hundred rate on all freight to and from Portland, shows that we are not required to appropriate $20,000 in the legislature to maintain a railroad commission in order to get low rates, Tills oiler of a 10 cent rate is entirely voluntary, jnq (rial cat) bo too exhaustive, no test too exacting, for tho admirable qualities of Dr, Price's Baking Powder Friday the employes of tho Oregon PacMo II, IX, received their jmy, amount disbursed among (Item The was $M80, and (hero was u small bulauco loft Jnllio exchequer. This preV'U's nt every point on tho surface of the planet where com merce is known. But here is the Clat sod statesman who slnca 10 to 1, pnd is prepared to maintain It against the world for the purposo of a senatorial election. The ratio and tho market probably will not bo controlled byClaf sop ' Oregonlau. The above is hardly a fair way to dispose of Seuator Fulton as a sena torlul aspirant to succeed Dolph. But it is about as fair as the Oregonian's entire conduct of Its light for Dolph and this manifest unfairness is helping elect Mr. Dolph not even a little bit. Charley Fulton has hosta of friends in Oregon and the Oregonian's goldbug alderdash will not weaken their ad miration for the senator from Clatsop. The simple fact Is, if any man lu Orf 'ou has ideas that are not the ideas cf .he Oregoulan, he Is a fool iu its opinion. Gen. Nelson A. Miles is a consistent advocate of wholesome food. He is naturally a firm believer In the efflcacy jf Dr. Price's Cream Baking Powder. The Tacoma School Journal says: "Iu tho public schools children are oc cusioually dropping out solely for the want of necessary ololhing, their parents on account of waut of employ ment or the stress of hard times not being able to provide for their needs. The teachers should be instructed to report every such case to the superin tendent and it should come to the knoweledge of the board of education. No child whose parents are unable to provide it with decent clothing should be permitted to absent itself on that aicount." The Tacoma News editorially en dorses the above, and it is no doubt true of many localities all over the country. But look at the Iniquity at such a time of trying to force obanzes of text books, or preventing the people for the next six years from getting any relief from high trust prices. It is a well-known ict that the next legisla ture could provide for state publication of elementary text books, at a very small cost or entirely free iu place of thousands of volumes of weather re ports, and bulky volumes now printed and never read. The cause of religious liberty has gained another point in Us onward march to perfect freedom of thought and action. This time tho victory Is in Hungary. Until now the various religious churches into which the Hun garian people have been divided have insisted on the exclusive control of marriages, baptlsims and registrations of births among tholr own members. By a law recently passed by the Hun garian parliament and approved by the emperor, civil marriages are now mado legal. Freedom of worship has been given to all religions and the registration of births to be made by tho ptate. The contest Is long and bitter, but tho spirit of the nineteenth century prevailed and hereufter Hungary can stand with the liberal nations of Eu rope, The Democrats iu congress cud not agree on a currency bill, uud the Re publicans can only agree to disagree With the Democrats, In the meantime, voices from the West, In favor of the only safe and permanent solution, will be heard, If not heeded, Ope voice from Oregon, however, Is with thoso from Wall streot, Portland Hun. The Sun speuks for Portland only- Rut Portland and tho Oregonlan are not Oregon. They are pot all there is of tho Republican party In Oregon, Tho legislature uleoted fresh from the peo ple has not nnioh respect for Wall direct and Is not much afraid of Portland dictation, The Portland, buulwa are not currying the people of Oregon lu their pockets so muod an (hey ym a few ywi ""go.
