John Buuo named Wm. Hender shott, of Buttevllle. Ho withdrew in fayor of harmony, Allen was uouilimted with great en thusiasm uud took the platform. He was congratulated by the chairman aud presented to tho convention, a contending and not acrimonious gath ering but as good Democrats to suport good government. Geo, spread the eagle of Jellersonlau principles in good style uud won great applause, He mude a truly eloquent speech. Ho asked that they bury all dltterouocs In a common grave. If they were en gulfed lu a wave of defeat, ho appealed to them to face It like men, waving the Hag of Dtmioornoy. Win. Kaiser moved a ooiutultteo ou credentials. Curried. Wm. Kalssr, J. John Bane nakwl a liwirltig on a mo tion at this (Kilnt but was suowed under with cries of "sit down." Webster Holmes movent a couitutteo of five on order of business. W. W. Elder, Webster Holmes, Wm. Murphy, Louis McClalne and Sol Durbln were appointed. P. H. D'Aroy moved a commltteo of five on apportionment. Thompson said he hoped the gentleman would not want live delegates from one pre cinct. Federal officials bad no right to sit down ou Democrats, said D'Arcy. Dave Holmes moved to amend to select delegates out of the body of the convention. I The viva voce amendment was adopted. In the mean time there bad been a bloody round between D'Arcy and Thompson. E. H. Flag moved a committee of five on platform. Mr. Flag, B. F. Bouhan, J. T. Morloy, Sam Hay dan, Jas. Godfrey were appointed. Eugene Willis and Jas. Colemau were appointed tellers. John Bane arose to make a motion. The air grew terrific with rattling of chairs and ten or twenty voices. Mr. Bane's voice was lost in the din and babel and a motion to adjourn to 11:45 swept him off his feet and hurled him into the oblivion and tumult that pre vailed. At 1:40 the committee on credentials reported delegates nearly as printed above. The J. D. Fry faction were not allowed seats from Salem No. 1. A dozen men jumped up and charged that their lists of names bad not been reported correctly. Tho chairman ottered tho suggestion that they come upon the platform and adjust their dlUereuces with tho committee. Forty men arose and Boon the stage was a seething mass of Democrats. That fountain of peace and harmony called the Democrutio party of Marlon county overflowed once more. The Thomas delegation In the county convention was thrown out, AC1AIN8T CLEVELAND. A resolution endorsing Cleveland was tubled. D. J. Fry moved to re consider amid bowls of rage. Billy Miller said they did not want the post offices. At this critical juncture the daring aud fearless Tom Wait sprang upon the platform aud declared lu vociferous tenes: "I endorse that resolution. I do ivfitlt. tint nnatrttllnn " Great cheers. This has special reference to the blockaded malls out on the Union Pacific, and does not Include the matter over the Northern Pacific which is coming through regu larly, since yesterday morning. When ever the delayed mall arrives here, It will handled without any loss of time, day or night." Gov.Pennoyer actually did Salem the honor to come down town this day of the Democratic convention. Sellwood was nominat ed for supt. of schools. Harvey Hinkle for recorder. For county commissioner, Hon. Henry Warren, Alfred Gobalet, county surveyor. P. II. D'Aroy was nominated for corner. Ho declined. Dr. W. S. Mott was nominated. As this report closed the convention was nominating delegates to the state convention. E. H. Flagg was chosen delogate nt large. Ho is a Republican.
