of whist. They found a host of people

mast head. It was a great success.
Good Selection. Miss Ada Brey
man has been chosen to arrange the
art exhibit from Oregon at tho world's
fuir. Miss Breyman Is considerable of
an artist herself and a lady of taste
and refinement who will be able to
conduct her department with credit to
herself and the state. She expects to
go on to Chicago and personally super
intend tho placing of pictures and art
works. While Oregon can boast of no
artists of national fame, sho will have
an exhibit no Oregonlan need be
ashamed of, when compared with
othr Northwestern slates.

favorite watering place will be Inter
ested to know that the steam tug Res-
oluto will bo ruu on route between
Newport and Yuqulna, In connection
with the Oregon Pacillo hereafter, In
currying passengers aud freight. Tho

twouty-tlvo cents. This change will bo
welcomed by all visitors to tho bay.

In his report dated March 11 tho In
spector says: "There Is considerable
stokness among horses and cattle.
Sheep are only In fair condition as far
as has been heard from."
There are some hoes In the county
affected with catarrh or snuffles, and

George B. Baretow, residing at Salem,
Or., who has fallen heir to 1315,000 by
the death of his cousin, Mrs. Abby
White, of Santo Barbara, Col. She
left a fortune of nearly $3,000,000 to be
divided betweeu seven heirs.
By means of tho new Obenauer City
Directory, Mr. Barstow was found to
have been a barber at Hotel Willamette
where ho remained but a short time.

Henry says ho never felt so soro about

Salem, which will probably be for rent.
