A party prospect ing in the Old Bpanisb Cooper Canyon camo upon skeletons of 43 soldiers in the Devil's Gulch. This company of men had been missing from Fort Mary ever since the Apache raid on Espagnola, September 9, 1870. All died from drinking the water of poison ous spring?. The Prison Plot. Last Tuesday Miss Eva Dosse was taken violently ill, and died Wednesday from thejjflects of poison. It Is supposed she bud taken it with sucldal Intent, as she threatened to commit suclde. Yesterday her mother, Mrs, James Clarkson, was tuken similarly ill, and died. A son, James, who left here Tuesday for An derson, was stricken In the same man ner, and by the time be reached Ander son was reported dead. Two other per sons were attacked yesterday and both their lives are despaired of. Tbe coron ner'a Investigation in the case of Eva developed the fact that death was caused with arsenic. A large quantity was fond in tbe stomach. A post-mortem will be held upon the remains of the mother and tbe matter fully inves tigated. Stored Silver. l'HTLAOELPHiA,March 13, Tbe Unit ed States mint to this city bolds tbe largest amount of bar silver ever stored in one mint in tbe United States. Tbe quantity is 110,000,000 ounces, or fully enough with tbe usual alloy to make no less than 160,000,000 silver dollars, anel bullion is being received from tbe gov ernment at tbe rate of 8,000,000 ounces per month. Besides this amount, there are in separate vaults (10,000,000 in coined silver. All the available storage space is utilised; and a vault Is being; constructed for tbe sole purpose of stor ing bullion. Goldsborough, Oliver Branthoover, Joslab Boss and Mine Inspector Wm. Duncan. Suicide on a Train. Los Anoeles, March 13. A South ern Paciflo train brought into this city tbe body of a ranchman who bad com mitted suicide near Pomona by blow ing out bis brains with a big 44-callbre revolver while en route to this city from Tombstone, Ariz. The passenger walked out on the car platform, and placing tbe gun to bis right temple, pulled the trigger. Tbe bullet passed entirely through his bead, aud the sui cide fell off tbe steps. Tbe Oregon Development company an nounces that its steamer Willamette Valley, running between this city and Yaqulnabay, and connecting at tbe latter place with trains of the Oregon Paciflo railway for Portland, bad been turned over to the railway company, which would hereafter run the steam er on its ocean division, The steam ship officers at 84 Montgomery street have been removed to section 4 of the seawall. W. B. Webster, the repre sentative of the Oregon Developeinent company in this city, who has been general freight and passenger agent of tbe steamship service for several years, baa turned over bis office to tbe sew managers of tbe steamer, but will still remain agent of tbe Development com pany. The new otfeers of the ocean division of tbe Oregon Paclfle railway are: R. E. Mulcabey, general Buperln tendent', E. W, Hadley receiver; D, R. VawgbB, goatrai agent; V. W, Johasoa freight and passenger agent, and A. J. r3torrs, captain of the st-amor Willam ette Valley. Captain Charles H. Wat son, the purchasing agent of the steam ship lino, will still remain chief of the commissary department. Messrs. Mul cabey and Hadley arrived yesterday from Yaqulna bay on the steamer Wil lamette Valley, and will remain until next Tuesday, when the steamer will return north. They say that the ocean service Is to be Increased by the addi tion of a 2,000-ton steamer, and that instead of trips every ten days, two steamers will be able to run on the schedule, leaving here every Ave days. The time between here and Yaqulna bay is forty hours. THE IOE GOING OUT. Heavy Spring Bains Broaklng up the Eastern Bivers. NEBRASKA UNDER WATER. Omaha, March 18. Reports from the North and South Platte country re colved at railroad headquarters today show that heavy rains aro playing havoc with railroad property along tho North Platte, South Platte and Loup rivers, bridges being torn from tholr moorings by drifting ice and gorges damming tho water so that the tracks are Inundated. 8ome parts of the Burl ington & Mussourl River and the Union Paciflo are already abandoned until the waters recede. Thirty bridges along tho branches of tho Union Pacific, Burlington and Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley aro either washed away or undermined so as to make crossings dangerous. On the Unnn Paciflo the bridges and approaches are slightly damaged, but tho traffic of tbe road is not interrupted. Through train service is conduoted by way of Lincoln and Grand Island, with comparatively little delay. Tbe damage done by wa ter and loo will bo repaired by Mouday and traffic resumed on tho main line. MICHIGAN FLOODED. Detroit, March 13. The Michigan Clothing Company's building at Ionia was flooded and the loss will bo quite heavy. At Lyons tho lower part of the town is flooded to tho depth of several feet. The merchants worked all night removing their goods. Much damage is done to tbe factories along tbe race below tho town. The ap proaches to the Chicago & West Mich igan bridge at Zealand aro washed away. At Jackson the baaemonts of 10 stores on Main street are flooded. Along the Huron the mills aro partial ly submerged and men were up all night watching their property to keep it from floating away. The east side of Mount Clemens Is flooded and tho residents began to moyo early Satur day morning, Tho water aud oleotrlo light are shut off. WESTERN NEW YORK. Rochester, March 13. A good share of western New York is under water, and things are looking dubious for Rochester. Tho channel of tho Genesee river Is clear for a mile above tbe city, but with that exception tho Ice gorge Is Intact, and unless thoro Is a sudden cold spell this immense field must come down soon and let loose tho great accumulation of water now held by gorges near Mount Morris. The village of Mount Morris is mostly sub merged already,as well as Boveral small er villages along the upper river. The loss so far reaches into hundreds of thousands of dollars. The business of tho flooded region Is stranded, PENNSYLVANIA, Philadelphia, Maroh 18, Rain has fallen steadily all over tho state, and reports received Indlcato that seri ous floods aro Imminent. The Jersoy shore Is In danger of Inundation, and four feet moro will flood the town. The people In some localities on Pine crook bad to be removed from the second- story windows of their homes, At Port Deposite, Md., tho Susquehanna continues to rise and tho streets and tracks of the Columbia & Port Deposite railroad are under eight feet of water.
