It Is certain that enthusiasm car ries the Individual to a height of porforirjauco he is otherwise Inca pable of. It is the wire ofilfe, the stimulant .that makes life worth llviuff and truly endurable. There are many languishing in weary, Ill- conditioned days because there Is no oljootlvo point Upon which their en thusiasm can fasten. They have np peg to hang their life upon and so often hang themselves. Be sure you have some lire iu which you can raise your blood to white heat occasionally. It need notT to a largo object, but it better boa worthy one. A very small field, well cultivated to enthusiasm shall pro duce you a bountiful crop. If It is only chickens or strawberries, or cnimrlesor orchids, ltmay bo enough to carry your life beyond tho dead point. There are fields whore en thusiasm yields little fruit, us poll tics or sectarianism. It is tho dead polut you want to pass, and keep past it In ordor to live. If tho bal-auco-wheel of the great Corliss en glue comes to a standstill at the dead point, all the pressure that can bo raised in tbo boiler cannot move it. It is not for lack of steam. It is the situation that Involves the stoppage of nil the' machinery and not lack of pressure. Beware of the situation that finds you at the dead point where youaro absolutely de void of auy enthusiasm for anything. This dangorpolnt la approached as we pass middle ago, In' youth all Is full of life, hope and enthusiasm. As wo proceed to young man hood and womanhood, the passions of existence so throng our llvas that we nover lack tho precious stimulant to exertion, Tho Bpur is applied by uature and our bipod Is easily sot ou tho gallop. But as wo pass forty, the passions coo). Tbo natural man's volcano begins to cool. Tho fires aro burn ed out. The necessity for an absorb ing special enthusiasm grows great. It is not necessary that this enthu siasm shall bo for sonftthinir apart from your ordinary life, But Is essential that It be genuine to be of any benefit. What is more desolate than a hopelees, passionless blank state of existence? Many men and women arrive at forty or fifty with their life-work apparently done, the objects of their existence come to an end. Their children are settled. meir parents anu relatives are passed away, tlmy live as It were alone to themselves with nothing to lavish an allectlon upon. To Biioli, any object to arouse enthusiasm will be a godsend. Awaken yourself to this necessity, if it be only keeping a cow, or a cat, horses or dogs. Do not bo without an object to love and warm your blood over. An enthusiasm that shall bo ,a means of salvation from eunul or llfe-tired-neea musf be founded upon Intelligence. To serve us we must master the subject we would enthuse over. If it be China painting, or knitting, If It be angling or note shaving, to get any enduring satl. factlou we must be fundamentally well Informed. We must muster the courage to learn all about It or we shall fall to ' get well warmed up oyer It aud it will fall a dull drudgery upon our hands, only to be aban doned In disgust. It Is a delleate' matter for one, to whom life has become aUU-aud-chain drag, to pick upon a aueeeas ful something to arouse atbmiatu, We know a gentlawan who lata la life gained Infinite pleasure and a- Joyueat , frow as eatUualaaoi for paasies. Yet they are created the same, have the same sorrows, sufferings and needs. Their blood flows the same, they breathe the same air and eat the same foed: Why they should live entirely dif ferent she cannot see. Bo she Is. an enthusiast for this reform. Her life is demonstrating that she Is right. She has set back the hour haudof her life from sixty to forty and tho setting sun of her existence' was not only commanded to eland still but was moved high up toward the noontide of a heaven filled with the hope born of enthusiasm. in conclusion, It is better to select an object of enthusiasm apart from our regular life work. Let the farmer who has raised nothing but cattle, become a breeder of trotting horses or a chicken fancier. Let the banker or man of business turn his attention an hour a day to chrys anthemums or gladioli. Let the weary toother study art or ,the kindergarten, and the weary father collect engravlugs or raise blooded dogs. Any variation that begets .enthusiasm will do. By all means get a vein of this tonic coursing through your nature. Get courage. Got life. Get it by getting up a real enthusiasm for sohiothlng or other. SUGOKSTED OOMMKNT.
