ment reminds mo of a Iittlo incident
that occurred a night or two before
1 left Peekskill, where tho New York
Iboya were encamping.
"On this night tho countersign waa
'Gettysburg,' and somo of tho bat-,
tory boys, who wero stationed out
on the edgo of the bluff, 'caught on.'
Several of them had Bomo fun with
the guard after taps, nnd one inci
dent in this connection has an espe
cially humorous side to it It seems
that no enlisted man is entitled to
the countersign. If it is absolutely
necessary for ono to enter or leave
camp after taps ho can go post tho
guards only by means of a pass which
has been approved at headquarters.
