A Newton county local Methodist
preacher, who works for hiuiscli
during tho weok nnd labors for tho
Lord on Sundays, wns called upon to
baptize an old lady by immersion.
Ho tried his best to got Brothor
Bridges and other preachors to do
tho work, but failed, so ho went forth
in search of a good placo, and found
a washed out nolo of calm water in a
spring branch, but was forced to
cross a shallow run of tho river in
order to get to tho branch. Tho main
run of the river was too swift for
bapli3inal purposes, becauso tho old
lady was too heavy nnd clumsy to
hold against tho current.
The banks of both streams wcro
lined with people, nnd as tho mourn
ful melody of a "Hark from tho
tomb" song went over hill nnd dnlo
tho preacher proudly led tho happy
sister to tho water's edgo, and ns her

er, 'Old lady, when you striko that

hearted preacher, "hang mo if I
