More About the Accident.

geles, and Mexico, to Kansas City,
and left theio at 0:40 Wednesday
afternoon. Tbe train was com
posed of the postal, tuggaue,
smokiug, chair, tourist and two
Pullman coaches. 'Ihe bridge
through which the train plunged
was about 175 feet leng and thirty
feet high, over tho Fox river ue.tr

There arose a weird shriek fiom the
wounded ami dying above the roar
ot the storm. The engineer and
fireman and uninjured occupants
of the rear sleeper hurried to the
rescue. Some passengers in the
wrecked curs escaped, aud lighting
their way through tbo whirling tot
ronts, reached tbe banks and fell to
tho ground exhausted. Seoi fank
in the wreck to die, nnd twentj-flx
are known to have been injured.
Some fifty others suflored from
slight cuts and scratches.
A relief train was sent fr tn here
at 3 a.m. TUo train arrived tbeie

started for Fort Mudlson, via the
Keokuk it Western loud. A few

was hurued to the ground Ixtween
0 and 8 o'clock yesterday. A bed ol
ashes and smouldering fire stretches
from Right of Way to Cottace
avenue. The fire is attributed to
the sparks from the mill of White
River Shingle company located at
the depc t, which set fire to the roof
of the Buckley Lumber company's
store. A light w Ind was blowing,
which made the whole street on
the south and business part an easy
victim, though the fire bad to jump
Cedar street to rea h a solid block
stretching to Cottoye avenue.
Little effort was made to quench
tbe fire after it got fairly started, but
hundreds of men carried goods
acrrss the street aud considerable
merchandise was saved. The citizens
are busy tonight getting goods into
afe places, and many firms will do
busine's tomorrow from improvised
st'.rc. The Buckley state hank will
be open for buainess at Taylor &
Joint's office at the usual hour,
owing to their fire-proof safe.
Heroic efforts to save goods were
made, and many now suffer from
scorched far1, Coke Ewiug is con
fined to bis bed witb very puimul
burns about tbe neck and face.
