TWO BOLD BURGLARS. Highbinder Chinese Captured by tho Police. Portland, March 21. Detectives Joseph Day and Bum Simmons suc ceeded Saturday in running two more desperato Chlneso burglars to earth. Last Monday morning at 6 o'clock tho store of Dr. LeoHunn, at 145 Second street, was entered and robbed of 1700 worth of Jewelry belonging to tho doctor and his wife. Following a hallway In tho building thoy Btoort boforo tho door of tho doctor's room. With a caw thoy so6Ti cut a hole in the panel and un bolted tho door. Thoy had se cured the jewelry and wore disap pearing through a door whon the doctor awoke and saw them, lie followed them to tho door of a stair way, but they escaped to tho street. Monday tho detectives wero ad vised that tho burglars had attempt ed to tell their booty and kept u sharp lookout for them. Evidence accumulated against tho thieves and at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon tho dotectives arrested Leo Den, a highbinder, belonging to tho Hip Sing Tong gang, on Second and Pine streets, and Leu Slug Cheung on Second and Stark. The New York Herald charged the use of corruption funds amounting to at least $3,000,000, raised by interested capitalists and stock jobbers to pro cure the passage of a bill legislating for the coal combination of the Reading railroad. When the mines wero closed down In the winter 2000 miners left tho country, and a similar number must return beforo operations can bo resumed on tho old magnitude. Heretofore tho wages have been $3.60 per day alike to miners and carmen, but in the future the mine-owners decluro that they will pay this rato to miners only and $3 to carmen. Sandbagged on a Bridge. Portland, March 21, A. Larsen, a bridge sweeper on the steel bridge, was sandbagged by a footpad ubout 1 o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Larsen was sweeping the east up proaoh of the bridge when the footpad crept up behind him and hit him on the head and face with a rook tied iu a silk handkerchief.
