As they were nearing camp the doctor witli his escort rode out, and called back home cheering words to him Five minutes later they were out ol sight. Once within camp limits the colonel dismounted, and, giving Ids horse over to a syce, walked beside the young offi cer's horse with his hatid on his neck. Several fellows camo up with greetings and congratulations. "Como straight to mess and have something to drink before you ted us anything." said tho colonel, taking hold of tho horse's bridle as ho spoke.
