The Yjiaton Accident. A. F.
Yeatou met with a severe accident
Thursday afternoon, at five. The
pretty little team lan quite rapidly
up'Trade street and as they turned
the comer of Church .street the
buggy upset, throwing the occupant
out and dragging him between the
wheels a half block, when the bu,
gy righted and he let go, the hind
wheels going over lihu. Jits fti
head was quite severely cutun-1
bled profusely. But lie was up in a
moment and was able to take c ire
of himself. They concluded Mi. ir
escapade by colliding with a street
car ou State street, where one of the
horses was pretty badly bruised.
Mr. Yeaton had a very narrow es
cape and behaved in a plucky
manner.

ery horses with dog carts run away
at 9 a. in. and raced madly up Com
mercial street. A street car separ
ated them aud the bay animal run
up State street dushing into ex
Governor Moody's buggy in front of
Cross's market and dashing it high
In the air. Fortunately the gover
nor was "not iu it." Tho wheels of
bis vehicle were badly shattered.
The escapade drove several horses
tied ou State street up onto the side
walk creating great excitement for a
few minutes. These runaways are
altogether too numerous and the
city should require horses standing
to be weighted down.

Dr. J. O. Peek, of New York,
spoke on missions aud t lie work of
the church. His subject was "The
Conversion of the World U) Chilst
nn Assumed Certainty."
It was the decree of the Almighty
God. The fact that he has promised
this is guaranty of its fuMlliment.
He has covenanted to give the heath
en tn the oliuieh for a popsofslou to
the uttermost parts of the earth.
The triumphs of eighteen huudred
years are piwif that tho work is
surely progressing. It took a thous
and years in secure the first fifty
millions of nominal Christians. In
18S0 there were 710,000,000 of all
such. At the ratio of the past
eighty years of progress by 1050 the
whole world will be under tho sway
of Christianity. The Increase of
converts In 1800 In our foreign mis
sions wus 12J per cent greater than
tho Increase of th. whole church.
There have been 10.000 conversions
iu India this year. It costs only $T0
n year to support n native pastor in
India. The meeting was a very
successful one, aud the address was
one of the great features of this con
ference. Dr. Peck goes to Portland
Saturday and occupies the Taylor
street church.

spoke at 3 p. in. on "Sunday School
and Tract work."

Miss Hansee, dean of the Wom
an's college, has returned from tho
Sound, and was an interested listen
er at the conference sessions.
Photographer Catterliu was in at
tendance at the close of tho session,
and caught tho whole conference iu

son's future would seldom consent to

more numerous where artisans, whoso
sons had greater liberty, wero more

of dust or dried mud very quickly, and
tho blacking Is applied in tho usual
manner by a daubing brush, after
which tlio polishing process Is quickly
