WaLla Walla, Wash., June 29. rCoqioral Arnold, the soldier who lifts been in close confinement in the post guard house at Fort Walla Walla, on a charge of breaking the gun rackB and giving the soldiers nns on the night Huut was lynch ed, made an unsuccessful attempt to escape Friday evening. It has been customary to remove the irons from the prisoners' limbs durleg the day time, putting them on again nt night. The officer of the day was warned by one of Arnold's fellow prisoners not to put the Irons on Arnold. Upon close examination it was discovered that Arnold bad bound heavy rags around bis ankles, bo that the i rout- would not fit. In lower part of Harlem opposite, water is running through the streets and a number of people are moving to higher ground. STORM IN INDIANA. Hillsuoro, Ind., June 29. The sovciest rain and wind storm ever known here occurred yesterday. Trees were uprooted and streets Hooded until Impassable, storms of wind, hall nud rain pawed over diflerent portions of Southeastern Indiana and Kentucky yesterday afternoon. Great damage was done to wheat. CYCLONE NEAR DENVER. Denver, Col., Juno 29. News ban just been received of a destruc tive cyclone which passed over this country twenty-live miles east of this city on Thursday night. Houses were blown away, trees uprooted and carried away, and crops for miles around completely ruined. A dozen persons wero injured but none seriously. C. B. Clark, who lias a ranch near Deer Trail, reported that tho hail fell for twenty minutes and killed about 200 sheep, and put out the eyes of many others. There are only two drawbacks want of shade aud water. Compan ies G aud K from Coos Bay arrived at 2 o'clock yesterday, completing the regiment. The weather is clear and warm. No shade is to be had on the ground, except that of the tents, aud the sun comes down pret ty strong, so that already tho most delicate complexions have changed to a ruddy hue. It has proven nn impossibility to get wuter by driving wells, which is quite nn inconven ience. Divine services wero held yesterday afternosn on tho ground. Tho men are very orderly ubout the city aud no misbehavior is to be feared, but u provost marshal is on duty to insure discipline out of camp. Hundreds of peoplo visit the camp each day and stand out side of the lino to listen to the music of tho band each evening. The baud is ono of which the regiment niid listeners are justly proud. Their music is worth going to hear. Tho regular drills will commence today and continue the entire week. DISAPPEARED. Portland, Or., June 29. Geo. W. Williams, traveling salesmau for Theodore Gladding, Portlaud agent of Lotillard Bros., is missing. Chicago Herald., Itrnnson Alcott's Potato Sues. Tho Listener heard a singular story about Bronson Alcott nt Concord the other day, told to illustrato hisremark ablo guileiessness of nature. When tha potato bugs first began to ravage the eastern fields, a good many years ago, Alcott had a promising potato patch, and his next neighbor also had one, tlio two fields adjoining, with a fence between them.
