The Tacoma Morning Globn says: That men ure being "held up" every night in Tacoma Is too much of a truth to conceal. Many of the victims do not like the notoriety that they neces sarily receive from announcing to the police or the public that they were atopped ou the public streets and robbed of every valuable on their person. ToooftciTif It becomes public property they are set down as belug drunk or cowards. But that men are being "held up" even In the business quarters of tbe city every night, leak out from some quarter or another. On Tuesday night, shortly after midnight, n man came to Officer Smith at Nluth street and Pacific avenue with hi face liteeding, and stated that he had been "held up" and robbed nt the corner of Eighth and Pacific! avenue, and httd hud his pistol, gold watch mid 17.50 taken from him. Officer Smith took the man to Slujiieu's drug store under the Hotel Fife where the night clerk dressed bin wound, uhicb consisted of a cut, about two liuncs in length, under his left eye. The man, who from liia apearance looked and acted like a gentleman, refused to give his name, but related the attack aa follows, which at least three men present beard. He said that he wan a stranger in the city and had had a business en gagement which bad detained him late, and was taking a walk and smoking a cigar before retiring. When be reached tbe corner of Eighth and Pacific avenue, and was about to turn and wa'k down tbe avenue Again, a man stepped in front of him and with a pistol point- mi at hliu demanded that be throw up hi bauds. He hud a pistol lu bis pocket, aud attempted to draw it, Wbeu another man apeared from tbe other bide aud dealt hlui a blow under the eye which kuocked him dowu. Both men then jumped on blm and relieved him of his gold watch aud chain, hi pistol aud tbe 17.60 tbat be had lu his pockets. Tbe two men then ran away before be could get to lilt feet, and be went In search of an officer. Tbe i;eu tlemati gave no appearance of belug under the iutlueuceof Intoxicants as a physician who was preseut told a Globe reporter last evening. John G. Blayden was found in bU drug store last night aud acknowledged that a mau who claimed to have been robbed aud had bis face :ut had been treated lu the store tbe night previous, but refused to give any information with refereuce to It. The clerk who bad been on duty at tbe time he aald was no longer lu his employ, but Mr. Blayden refused to say where he could be found. He laughed aud made light or tbe mat ter when questioned aud said that tbe lw said about the matter would be better.
