An unusually heavy rainstorm, accompaulcd by thunder, lightning aud hall, visited this placo last evening, causing con siderablo damage to tho roads south of here. The southbouud stago was delayed hero twelve hours by high water. The road from Shasta to the railroad at Middle Creek, a distance of threo miles, is washed out for fifty or sixty feet in many places, damaging tho road to tho ex tent of $1000. It will probably bo three weeks boforo tho road can bo repaired for travel. All travel to that placo in tho meant i mo will go via Ileddlng. The amount of tho rainfall for tho tweutv-four hours ending at noon Is 3.75 Inches. Bedding, Dccembor C Thero was a sovero storm last night, and lightning Hashes wore frequent. W. P. England's residonco was struck by lightning, and a largo holo was made In the northeast corner of tho house. Tho current followed down a post, ran along the sill, and passed Into the ground. Tho damago was slight. A cloudburst above Redding wash ed out about seventy feet of tho rail road track, delayed the overland train for several hours. Chico, December 6. Chlco ex perienced tho hardest rain storm this afternoon known lor years. The rain fell in perfect torronts, accom panied hy Bleot, hall, thunder and ltgutnlng. Creeks and mountain streams aro rising very rapidly. Some damage haH been done by leakage. Los Angeles, December 6. Tho rainfall for the twenty-four hours ending at 5 p. m. to-day was .11 of an inch, making the total for the season 10.32 Inches. Tho storm ap pears to bo over here. What Their Convention Is Doing at St. Louis. St. Louis, Dec. 0. Tho Farmers' and Loborers' Union resumed their sessions this morning, but in tho ab sence of reports from tho committees most of tho time was taken up In speech making. Tho joint commltteo of tho Union aud Northern alllanco appointed yesterday, aftor a long conference last night, fulled to agrco upon a plan of consolidation. This morn lug a now committee was appointed Ralph Beaumont, chairman of tho National Legislative Committee of tho Knight's of Labor, and ono of tho commltteo to confer with u committee from tho Farmers' Alllanco and Laborers' Union, said this afternoen: "Wo have no in tention of endeavoring to effect a consolidation with tho Farmers' Al llanco and Laborers' Union, As I understand it, tho Northern and Southern Farmers' Alliance, the Farmers' Mutual Benefit Associa tion and tho Agricultural Wheel havo consolidated, and wo are to confer with them with a view to furthering tho lutcrests of both or ganizations In the way of co-opera- tlon, not consolidation. We are both working for tho same ends, and this conference is for the purpose of establishing confidence In each other. Wo shall airreo that when tho farmers put a cuiididato In the field for cither a legislative, senator ial or presidential position wo will support that candidate, and they will do tho samo for us. Upon tho paper belnjt presented. the clergyman denounced It ns a torgery, and a warrant was sworn out for tho woman's arrest. She was "bound over nnd afterwards indicted, and after a flvo days' trial for utter ing a forged Instrument, sho was found qullty and tho penalty as sessed at one year In tho Territorial Penitentiary. Tho woman sworo she paid tho monoy. to tho priest, and was cor roborated by a witness swearing that ho wont with her and saw her carry tho money into tho house. Anotiicr witness saitl no saw tho woman thero with tho money. Tho character of theso witnesses was sncces8fully impeached. Tho case is regarded as strango, and porhaps unprecedented. THE MINNEAPOLIS DISASTER. Funeral of Some of the VictimsThe Inquest. Minneapolis, December 0. Tho funeral of tho two operators, James F. Igoo aud Walter E. Miles, of tho Associated Press, took placo this afternoon. Four fellow-operators from tho Associated Press, four from the Western Union and four from tho North Amerlsan Telegraph Company acted as pallbearers. Com mercial Editor Millman's funeral was also held this afternoon, and his body was to-night sent to Broad head, Wis. Attempted Murder and Suicide. Spokane Falls, Dee. 0 This morning at 10 o'clock, It. L. Sander Hue, a pastry cook, shot his wife and attempted to kill her, Thluk ing ho had done so ho blow his own brains out. Both wero colored. They had not lived happy for sorao time, occupying tho house, but dif ferent rooms. A few days ago sho left him and began proceedings for a divorce This enraged Saudorlluo and was tho cause of tho trugedy to-day. His first shot missed her, when he caught nnd throw her oil tho floor and placing a pistol behind her car, fired.
