An English company is to bo formed to work the new patent. An au thority vouches for the fact that it works admirably, and lu its lire Is a remarkable improvement on coke. An interesting discovery has boon made near tlio deposits of kaolin re cently discovered thirty-live miles north of Spokane Fulls. At u depth of twenty-two feet ancient pottery of good quality was found, showing that these deposits were known to u bygone nice. Fire brick made from this clay was subjected to a test of 1800 to 4000 degrees lu the assay ofllco, Ono brick breaking at the former and another withstanding the latter. There is a rich family of the name of Lofting in England, the fortune of whose house was founded by such an apparently Insignificant tiling as the thimble. The first ever seen in England was made in London less than two hundred years ngo by a mental worker named John Loft lug. The usefulness of the article commended it at once to all who used the needle, and Lofting maden fortune. The implement was then called the thumbell, it being worn on the thumb when in use, uud its shape suggesting the rest of the name.
