Tho observation of railroads shows a tendency this year to emigrate to Oregon and Washington, where farming land can be taken up or purchased at reasouablo prices. It is singular that such word should come from that section, which has hitherto enjoyed a monopoly of tidal waves of population. Tho re action has como, and tho people now start for a part of the coast that never has had any "boom," nor created any excitement. The Evangelical School. McMinnville, Or., Feb. 22. A cor respondent to the Missouri Republic says: I will give you a bit of exper ience I had with a joint snako some years ago. While out walking one day I came across a suako dif ferent from any I had over seen 'be fore. It was a brownish, spotted, rusty-looking snako about 1G inches in length. On striking it with a stick it immediately divided itself in to four parts. I then know it was a joint snake, as I had often heard that they would disjoint when struck, and that the parts would re unite. I determined to watch tho actions of tho different parts and see if the statement was true. To my surprise I had tho satisfaction, after waiting a few minutes, of seeing the different parts slowly but surely take their respective places, the head part acting much after tho manner of a switch-engine coupllug cars together, and his suakeship crawled off looking slightly disfig ured, but taking all the parts, how ever. There is no doubt but that tho joint snako will reunite after being disjointed. A Rig Flume. San Dieoo, Feb. 23.
